Gaming all day.

When I came across this prompt, it took me back to the days when I used to enjoy playing video games with my friends. Those were some of the best moments ever.

Even though I love watching action and romance movies, I just can’t sit through a full movie for two hours straight. In fact, the longest movie I’ve ever sat through was Hellboy, and even then, I didn’t watch it at a go. I had to pause, take breaks, and come back to it because I don’t know how to stay glued to my screen for long periods watching movies. Most times my attention drifts, and I always feel like doing something else.

But video games? That’s a whole different story. I can go all night playing games without getting tired or fed up. I remember one particular crossover night in 2022 when I went to my friend’s house. We spent the entire night playing FIFA until the next morning. When others were heading to church to pray and celebrate going to into the new year, we were still glued to the screen, competing for bragging rights.

When dawn finally broke, we barely made it to bed to catch a few hours of sleep.

Honestly, I just can’t resist video games. I get completely stucked in them and find myself playing for hours without even realizing how much time has passed.

My favorite games are mostly football related, like FIFA, because those are what I’m good at. Games like Mortal Kombat or racing games aren’t really my thing since I tend to lose more often than not. There’s just something about football games that keeps me hooked, probably because i have been playing them for a long time and i am more familiar with the strategies and mechanics.

One thing about playing video games, especially with friends, is that competitive urge to keep playing until you win.

It always tough to admit that someone can beat you easily without you getting a single victory. There was a particular day when I visited a friend who owned an Xbox One. He was ridiculously good at FIFA—he could pull off incredible dribbles and score insane goals from any angle. He was originally in U.K before he came over to Nigeria, so he had many whites as friends that were very good playing at those games. Moreover he normally watch YouTube videos to learn those things.

As we played, I kept losing match after match, but I had this stubborn determination that I would win at least one game if I kept trying. I didn’t want to give up. But then a game came that crushed me entirely. He beat me with an embarrassing score of 11-2. That was the moment I realized I have had enough. The humiliation was too much to take, and I finally decided to call it a day.

It’s funny how competitive gaming can be. You don’t want to stop until you prove yourself, but sometimes you just have to admit defeat and move on. Looking back, those gaming sessions with friends were more than just about winning or losing—they were about the camaraderie, the laughter, and the shared memories. Even though I got thrashed that day, it’s still a moment I’ll never forget.
