At exactly 2:08 pm, I received a notification on my Lichess app from Stayoutoftherz, reminding the chess team about the upcoming tournament (Hive chess tourney) in the next 7 hours. As I stared at the notification, my heart skipped a beat in anticipation. I could feel my veins pumping with excitement. Immediately, I went online on Discord to remind my friends about the tourney. I’d been practicing; solving puzzles and playing with other online users, in preparation for the Hive Chess Season 18 second round.
The first round was a mix of good and terrible games. Although I didn’t play as I would have loved to, I did my best and I performed fairly. Before the game started, I had just two wishes; the first was not to play against Stayoutoftherz, the host. I really do not know why, but I find it impossible to beat him after my last win againt him. I have won against him just twice and it has been impossible ever since. My second wish was to play against @b0s and @Olujay. Luckily for B0s, we didn’t get paired. On the other hand, Olujay was so scared that he didn’t even show up. In general, today’s games went well. Even though I still didn’t play as I would have loved to, I did well. At least, I won all my games against lower-rated players. In this post, I’ll share my review of today’s games.
As I stared at the countdown timer, my heart began to pound with excitement. I was determined to win my first game. I always believe that if you win your first game, there’s a very high chance of winning more games, and that is why I always try to start on a nice note. I was matched against RDcast, a lower-rated player. My chances of winning got a boost. Bring it on, sir! In the last round, I had won two games against him and I just knew I’d win. Unfortunately for him, he blundered his Queen. Swiftly, I seized the opportunity and capitalized on it. The smirk on my face when I captured my opponent’s Queen was out of this world.
Fcastro17 is quite a good player. He won 2nd place(or third) in the last round. I was matched with him in the last round. As expected, I was mercilessly dealt with. Unfortunately, I got paired with him today. I didn’t want to lose hope before the match started, so I stared at my screen, focusing on every move. I guess luck was against him, plus, the difference in our chess skills is on another level. I didn’t blunder (or at least I didn’t make a silly one.) Although he was running low on time, he managed to win.
I got matched with Uniforced. I’m not sure if this player is new to the Hive chess community. I have never played against him nor have I seen him in the previous tournaments, so I was careful enough not to let my guard down. The game against him wasn’t really challenging because he resigned right after he blundered his bishop. He started the game on a good note, but got frustrated when I captured his bishop.
Remember when I mentioned that I wished not to get paired with @stayoutoftherz? Sadly, my genie didn’t grant that wish. I tried as much as I could to play well, but I lost. I knew it was all over when I blundered my rook. My fifth game was against Lighteye. It ended in a draw. My sixth game against stranger27 was wack. After I blundered my bishop, I got frustrated and played rubbish.
My seventh game was against a lower rated player and the same thing happened in the eight game. Migmag blundered his Queen and I happily took it after which he resigned. Guisep’s started his game well, but he took my bait and I checkmated him. And yeah, I lost my last game against Rosmarly.
So, there you have it. I enjoyed playing today’s tourney. I did fairly well. See you all next round.
