Healthy Living 101

in Hive Learners10 days ago

Health is wealth. I believe that if people knew the importance of good health, they’d stop doing many harmful things. If you knew how lucky you are that you don’t visit the hospital regularly, you'd take your life more seriously- stop smoking, drinking excessively, consuming every sweet thing that comes your way, and avoid other habits that can harm your health. If you knew how fortunate you are to be hale and healthy, you'd be forever grateful. I grew up with a nurse who'd always tell us tales about her experiences in the hospital. After many years in her profession, my mom has seen a lot; she knows how quickly one can lose their health and she knows how important regular checkups are. So, growing up, we weren't allowed to do many things. While other kids snacked on biscuits, sweets, and candies, we weren't allowed to those treats. More importantly, because diabetes runs in my family, it is important to avoid triggers and take preventive measures whenever possible.

My mom knows the importance of regular checkups. Every Saturday, we would test our sugar levels, from the youngest to the eldest. We thought it was fun. And sometimes when the needle pricked too hard, we thought it was wickedness. It wasn't until we grew older that we understood the reason behind her actions. Today’s Hive Learner’s topic asks us if we take medical checkups seriously and when we last went for one.

REGULAR MEDICAL CHECKUPS

As I mentioned, the importance of regular checkups cannot be overemphasized. It had many perks attached to it. One of the importance of regular check ups is early detection. My mom treats people regularly. We have a mini hospital in our house where she attends to her patients. Sometimes, she employs us, her children, as her assistants. There have been so many times when patients come to meet my mom over the slightest thing they notice in their body. For example, as soon as they start feeling a thingy sensation in their heart or any part of their body, they come to report to my mom. I've heard many cases where my mom told them that they were lucky to have come early and it would have gotten worse if they had waited longer.

On the other hand, there are those who do not take checkups seriously. It is when they are on the verge of death that they rush to the hospital. Similarly, many people have rushed to my mom at the last moments. Years ago, a man who had diabetes rushed to my mom. Apparently, he had been experiencing the symptoms for years, but was unbothered about it. It wasn't until he got serious and his wounds started to not heal that he came to my mom. Unfortunately, it was too late. My mom told him he'd have to amputate his leg. I don’t know how the story ended, but I'm pretty sure it didn't end well.

Financially, regular checkups also have benefits. It reduces the cost of healthcare. Wouldn't it be better if you spent little on checkups, than ignoring it and spending thousands when it gets worse? What you could have easily fixed just by visiting the doctor, drinking enough water, or exercising regularly, could turn out to be worse than you'd need thousands to fix.

MY HEALTH ROUTINE

I have established the importance of regular checkups. Thanks to my mom, I know the importance and it is a part of me. Due to reasons best known to me, I don’t like to share things about my health. But one thing I can share is that I go for regular checkups. Missing my checkups would be detrimental to my health. There are several health habits that my health requires. One of them is eating well; fruits and healthy foods. However, it's challenging to maintain this habit when you're in school, with numerous responsibilities and other factors getting in the way. Since I'll be graduating in a few months, I plan to take my health more seriously.

My next checkup is scheduled for the end of this month. Unlike the other ones, I’d be traveling to another state for it. Really big deal.

Thanks for reading.

I completely agree with your opinion my friend, maintaining health is very important in life, if our health is maintained, of course our body will also be fit, I was also very afraid of needles when I was a child, but as a teenager I was used to and of course checking routine health is very necessary.

Like you, I have grown to learn how to battle my “needle fears.” Indeed, maintaining a healthy lifestyle is important. Thanks for stopping by.

Hello, darling. 🤗

Unlike you, I dread the hospital and anything related to it. But contradicting to that, I love good health. I have checked my blood pressure before and also did eye check up but it wasn’t planned at all. Besides that, I have not done any proper health check up.

The only reason why I feel I haven’t done it is because I just had the wrong idea from the start but I know there is power in knowing. I plan to do my health check up but I still won’t promise it will be often but I will try.

I’m glad you will be going for your health check up by month end. I pray everything goes well for you, love. 🤗❤️

Growing up, the hospital was like our second house- courtesy of my mom- your superwoman.😂😂

Wow! Besides that, you have never gone for a proper checkup. That's really surprising. You should go for one soon, even if it is just sugar level. That reminds me, you haven't done your medicals.

I hope things will go my way.
Thanks for stopping by, Hopey.❤️🥹

I’m sure if my mom was here she would have done the same because she is also a nurse.

No oo, I haven’t done my medicals. I will try to do it once and for all. 🏃‍♀️‍➡️

You know you’ll pay extra if you don’t do it early?

I think I know. I mean, Isn’t that how everything works?

It is.🏃

Wow sir fav, that quite good you have atleast plan your future checkup some people like me don't even go. hehheheh

Haha. As a gym bro, you should make it a habit.

Omo, I don’t know for you but I used to eat well in school. No matter the situation, I make sure to eat rich and healthy.😂

I just hope you’re maintaining those 6packs. Going for medical checkups monthly does sound great.

Omo! Nhaji, I’ll try to do better next semester. The only packs I have is hunger packs.😂

wahala
I will have to come and start taking care of you myself.😀

I will change.😂
I promise.

I hope so.

Thank you, Nhaji.

To be honest, I actually don't like taking drugs so I don't love visiting the hospital but then I know it is very important I stay healthy so I don't have a choice. It is actually very nice to hear that you will be graduating in few months. Congratulations in advance my bro 🙌.

Ah! Do you prefer injections?

Yeah but still don't really like that one too.
