There are various methods of transportation, and at some point in our lives, we have to opt in for one of them to travel from one place to another. Whether it is by car, plane, boat, or any other other means of transportation, sometimes we can’t do without them. How can we travel long distances without these methods of transportation? Before modernity- during the years of our forefathers, people traveled on foot, which could take weeks, or months, depending on the distance. Only the rich and titled people could afford horses and carriages. However, technology has taken over the world, and one aspect where we enjoy its benefits is transportation. There are different methods of transportation, each with its own advantages. While some people loathe car trips, and prefer other methods of transportation, probably due to ugly experiences or other factors, in the end, it all depends on an individual's personal preferences.
Today, the SciFi Multiverse community asks us about our best and worst experiences with any transportation vehicle. I have been fortunate enough to go from one place to another through different transportation vehicles, and each of them had their own advantages and disadvantages. I remember during my high school days, I traveled by bike for about 3 hours. While it was a bit faster, my eyes became red and irritated due to excessive wind during the journey. I don’t think I would want to try again. When it comes to my best and worst experiences with any transportation vehicle, I have so many stories to share. I could spend the whole day talking about these experiences, there are so many ones that still live rent-free in my head. Since I have shared my worst experience with a transportation vehicle on my blog before, in this post, I'll share a recent experience from yesterday, which like others, which was nearly as bad as the worst
I always thought I hated traveling. 2 years ago, if you asked if I hated traveling, I would boldly say yes. However, I have realized that I don’t hate traveling, but the method of transportation. I live traveling in my private (family car)- it is way more comfortable. However, I have had many ugly experiences with commercial buses. Sometimes, merely looking at them gives me PTSD. If I had the resources to pull the strings, I’d never travel by commercial bus.
Yesterday, I traveled from my school to my parents house- an interstate journey which took about 2 hours and 30 minutes. Even though I loathe commercial buses or cars, I didn't have a choice but to travel in one. One thing about these drivers is that they find every means possible to exploit people. One of the ways they exploit people is by overloading the vehicles. For example, a car designed for four passengers might be packed with six, cramming them in like sardines. “Do you want to kill us, you wicked people!” The car we took yesterday, which had a capacity for four passengers (three in the back and one in the front), was overloaded with six people - four in the back seats and two in the front.
Unfortunately, I sat at the front- one of the worst traveling decisions I have ever made. While my friend sat close to the door, I sat at the other end- close to the driver. Immediately the journey started, I started feeling uncomfortable. I noticed I was literally sitting on the seat belt holder and it was really painful, but I had to bear it in. To worsen the situation, my legs were on the gear box, so when the driver shifted gears, his hands and the gear were forcefully brushing against my leg. I felt dizzy and nauseous, and wanted to lay my head, but there was nothing to lay on. I imagined worst-case scenarios. What if I threw up in the car or fainted? I don’t know how I did it, but I survived in that painful spot for about 2 hours 30 minutes. When we got down, my legs had gone numb. For some seconds, I couldn't feel them.
During my childhood days, my mom and I often visited my grandma by train. It was like a family tradition every Christmas. Those were the days I actually really enjoyed traveling. I looked forward to the journeys because they were so fun and comfortable, even though they take longer. One of my best experiences was when my brother, mom, and I traveled to visit my grandmother. Unlike commercial buses, they don’t pack you like sardines. Every passenger has a seat to themselves as long as you paid for the ticket.
The comfortability wasn't the only thing that made the journey memorable, the other passengers also contributed to it. We met many people who made us laugh our lungs out. We left the train station in the morning and got to our destination at midnight- more than enough time to bond with other passengers.
