When one feels like they are being put in a spot and being left out of conversations, they should not try to blend in. Rather, when they are being put through an ostracise the ostrich treatment, they should try to stand out because they can do so.
Many a times, when the general masses feel threatened, the standard strategy is to ostracise you, try to put you down and try to force you to conform to their norms. However, this is the danger because you will lose your own identity and uniqueness. And when you fully blend in, you will find that they will continue to manipulate you.
So be yourself, do not let others make you an common bird, be the ostrich that you were meant to be.
