Hello Wednesday walkers,
I made a little stroll around the city center of Utrecht. And in the begin of my walk, I saw a big construction site. the whole pavement was gone here. Not to renovate the street but to renovate the roofs of the sellers underneath the streets. Do you see the curved stones?
In the old day's the goods that were needed in the city were brought in by boats that sailed across the canals around the city. And along those canals they had these cellars underneath the houses to store those goods. The cellars were very good protected against the weather and stayed cool trough out the whole year. Later on in this post you will see those cellars from the outside.
The Dom tower here, is still under construction. But it is just opened up for the public again. The scaffolding is gone now. From trough out the whole city and even the whole province this tower is visible.
Old building enough trough out the whole city.
The back side of little church. I love those lamps. Look like there were straight out of a history book.
You see those lamps every where around the city center.
A lovely plant shop.
Bikes every where around the city. The center is so compact that traveling around with a bike is very easy. But watch out for tourist on bikes, they are dangerous 😂
You also can rent a water bike. Cycle around the city center. I recommend you to do that one of the last day's that you are around. It gives you a totally different view of the city.
The city is the birth place of the cartoonist of the famous Nijntje cartoon, familiar in the rest of the world by the name Miffy. They have a complete museum dedicate to this cartoon. I still need to visit it. Do you know this cartoon in your country?
And of course the most beauty full canals of the Netherlands.
Along the canals of the city.
These are the cellars were I was talking about in the beginning of my post.In some of them are restaurants or buds located these days. I highly recommend going in one if you are in the neighborhood. But watch out for tourist traps restaurants.
The view from above.
