Wednesday walk around castle Amerongen.

in Wednesday Walk22 hours ago

Hello wednesday walkers,

Nice of you to join me on my walk around Castle Amerongen.

The history of this castle starts some were in the 13th century. Two brothers, Henric en Diederic Borre, were given permission in 1286 to build a house on this spot. They did not build the castle as you see it here in the pictures but it started out as a wooden living tower. Over the following years they constructed several towers witch the connected together witch formed the castle. But not the one you see here in the pictures.

In 1673 the castle was burned down by the French troops of Louis XIV. And on the old foundations they build this castle in old Dutch classic style. And it still stands today.

I will take you with me to have a look inside soon, but this walk was around the gardens.
On the property there is a very famous tree lane. Every season photographers are taking pictures of the spring blossom and autumn colors of this lane. The trees are pretty old but I don't know exactly.

Some of the trees are massive. That's me for the comparison.

On the property the also have a big vegetable garden and orchard with many different fruit trees. Many of those trees are collected from all over the world. the owners of the castle brought them back home from their distant travels.

I think they have many volunteers working the gardens for them, if I look at these wheelbarrows.

And of course the beehives. in the tea house they sell the honey and all the vegetables and fruits that they grow on the property. It's a good income. I am not sure if the cook with them in the restaurant but that would be very cool if they did.

The old stables of the castle are transformed in to a restaurant and tea house. You can enjoy your dinner outside in this bubble with a view on the castle.

The trees on that lane look beautiful even though they don't have leaves. I thought nobody lives in this castle anymore but since there's a garden and orchard, so they must still live here. Maintaining this huge property is challenging, but it's obviously well-taken cared of. Having dinner inside that bubble looks interesting.

No, nobody lives there any more. It is a museum now a day's. I will take you on a tour inside one day.
