The topic for week 37 is quite an interesting one, 1930’s and 1940’s. When I saw the topic, I was intrigued and all I wanted to do was to go through the contestants' entries out of curiosity.
And I was so impressed to see people being so creative and coming up with amazing covers from the 1930s and 1940s.
For this week, I will be reviewing @yaremiverde1 cover of “As Time Goes By,” A love song that appeared in an American romantic and action movie “Casablanca,” released in the year 1942.
The lyrics are powerful and the piano backing it up was magical. One line from the lyrics that affects me so much is, “The world will always welcome lovers as time goes by.” It was like a prophecy that has never ceased to be fulfilled.
I salute Yaremiverde1 for that choice, it was a great pick. Like I said earlier, this week is a tough one, songs from the 30s and 40s are a bit complicated, and not everyone can flow with it.
However, Yaremiverde1 did an amazing job. She made use of a background instrumental from the original song and crushed it from the beginning to the end.
One thing I love about her performance was the way she sang such a complicated song in her own way, she didn't put so much energy into trying to twist her voice into that of the 40’s, she simply did it her own way, and re-created the 40’s again.
She sang freely, in her own key, and followed the beat accurately. If she hadn't videoed herself, one can almost conclude that it was the original song playing. That was an excellent job.
She really gave her entry the best, one thing I learned from this week's contest, in general, is that we can do anything, no matter how complex it is, all we need to do is just give it a try.
Shout out to the judges and everyone behind this initiative for the big work they have been doing. You are really bringing the music vibe out of us thanks a lot for the privilege.
