City Escape: Reconnecting with Family and Nature

in Feel Good7 months ago

Craving a break from the city noise? Look no further than a visit to loved ones in their hometown!

This past weekend, I took my wife and kids on a quick adventure to Bukian Village at Payangan - Gianyar, my wife's childhood haven. It had been way too long since she'd had a proper sleepover with her parents.

We even managed to swing by the school to pick up our little one, Ina, before our escape to the countryside.

By 11 am, we were surrounded by the warm embrace of Bukian. The smiles, especially my wife's, were like sunflowers reaching for the sun. It's incredible how a trip back to where you come from can instantly rejuvenate your spirit.

The kids? They were bouncing off the walls with pure, unbridled joy. Reuniting with their grandparents and cousins after what felt like an eternity was pure magic for them.

After a delicious lunch and some well-deserved rest, the kids played sand truck.

Meanwhile, my ever-helpful wife joined her parents in a delightful mangosteen harvest.

Imagine: a vibrant tapestry of green with trees overflowing with these plump, purple treasures, just begging to be picked.

My father-in-law, a seasoned harvester, expertly gathered the bounty, which would soon be making its way to the market with the help of a friendly neighbor.

The afternoon brought a special treat for me and the kids – a visit to the family cow in the fields!

The walk to the cowshed itself was an adventure – a seemingly endless sea of emerald green rice fields stretching as far as the eye could see. It's a world away from the city's hustle and bustle, a place where fresh air fills your lungs and serenity washes over you.

The kids, of course, had a field day (pun intended!). They splashed in the irrigation channels, hopping from one rice bundle to another like little explorers on a mission.

They even got to participate in feeding the cow some pre-cut grass, their faces beaming with accomplishment.

Walk back to the house triggered a wave of nostalgia for me. As we passed a rice field, I spotted a young boy in pink t-shirt engrossed in catching eels. It took me right back to my own childhood adventures!

I couldn't resist saying hello. Turns out, he already had one wriggling friend tucked away in a plastic bottle, and wouldn't you know it, he managed to catch another one right before my eyes.

This little family escape served as a beautiful reminder of life's simple pleasures – the joy of family, the refreshment of fresh air, and the magic of reconnecting with your roots.
