šŸŽ¶ Gabba Gabba Hey! And the Night I (Sort of) Saw Ramones

in Music • last month (edited)

Hello everyone :)!

This post is for all my fellow music loversšŸ˜Ž!

My music taste is a little bit of everything. From smooth jazz and blues, to everything made from 50s and 60s, golden era rock ’n’ roll, all the way to chaotic punk and energetic K-pop/K-hiphop.

The only genre I really can’t stand (sorry not sorry) are cajke. Hard pass🤢🤮🤮!!!!!

Music has been my only friend in the darkest of days of my existence, when there was no light, no direction.

So when people say ā€œI can’t live without _____ā€, I believe them. Because I absolutely cannot live without music.

My very first connection with music might’ve been through Elvis Presley. I still remember watching Lilo & Stitch as a kid and getting completely enchanted by his voice.

Honestly, I think cartoons and movies introduced me to great music early on, and that stuck with me for life.

One of the biggest constants in my life has been my love for The Ramones.

And here’s a spooky/funny coincidence: I was born on the exact date, year, and time that Joey Ramone passed away. I like to joke that maybe I’m his reincarnation šŸ˜…. He was always my favorite Ramone anyway .

I also vividly remember hearing ā€œBlitzkrieg Bopā€ in a cartoon about a little toaster going on an adventure… but turns out that song isn’t actually in that film!? So who knows where my brain picked that up, but it clearly made a mark šŸ˜„.

Little note* I like to collect things from Ramones and I have around 10 t-shirts (not so punk huh..?)
:). Here’s just a few!

Sadly, since all of the original Ramones have passed, I never got to see them live.

They actually did perform in Zagreb back in the day, but I wasn’t even born then..

Or so I thought…

MarkyšŸ‘šŸ»RamonešŸ‘šŸ»Blitzkrieg, the band led by the only living Ramone, Marky Ramone himself and guess what? They performed in Zagreb this month!

For those who might not know:

Marky Ramone was the drummer for the Ramones from 1978 to 1983, and then again from 1987 until the band’s retirement in 1996.

He’s been keeping the spirit of Ramones alive with his band, touring globally and playing all the hits that defined a generation and continues to do so with the new ones.

When I found out he was coming, I was SO hyped. This was my chance to feel a tiny bit of that Ramones magic live.

The lead singer sounded so much like Joey it was so trippy but cool :). And the guy on his left (in the video) looked a lot like DeeDeešŸ˜†!

The king of the drums Marky Ramone himself!!!

Now for the honest part..

I’m quite short, and if you’ve ever been at a crowded show, you know how that goes. Usually I always arrive early at the venue and get to the barricade so I can actually see something but this time….

For almost hour and a half, all I could see were people’s backs and headsšŸ™ƒ...

It’s a strange kind of heartbreak to finally be there, at a punk concert with a real Ramone, and still feel so… far away from it all.

But hey that’s life. Not every experience is perfect (although I’m still soooo bittersweet about it😭😭). I still hope they come again, and next time I’ll make sure to get a better view (or bring a ladderšŸ¤£šŸ˜…).

Even with the awful view, the music was pretty solid.

They played 35 songs nonstop, just like Ramones did back in the day. They played Ramones classics, some Motƶrhead, and even a bit of Chris Montez. A little something for everyone.

Here’s a clip I recorded at the show (that was the only way to see the concert LMFAOšŸ˜šŸ’”šŸ’”), featuring the song

ā€œThe KKK Took My Baby Awayā€ – one of my favorites :)

Inn the end, punk isn’t just a sound, it’s an attitude and it’s not going anywherešŸ˜ŽšŸ¤˜šŸ».

Let’s keep music alive.

Punk’s not dead. šŸ¤˜šŸ»šŸ’€
