Moments in the Streets

There are many ways to portray the streets of a city, in which countless elements can be included in each composition. When we walk through the streets we see buildings, stores, traffic, cars and people. We can capture a city empty of passersby and show urban landscapes but we can also include people.

But how can we include the human element?

I consider that waiting for a good moment is ideal, because people in general would be walking but it is more special to capture some emotion in them, some gesture or something that expresses an action or emotion.

People say love is in the air, right? Well, on the streets or in my photos... This cute couple walking down Corrientes Avenue while holding hands. In the background some posters, buildings and the Buenos Aires obelisk.

Here I go with a photo that is not exactly an action, it just seemed very interesting when I saw this from the viewfinder of my camera. I was walking down Florida Street and as I focused on the buildings I found this contrast of lights. The corners are dark while in the background I focus on a large residential building.

There are many details in this image, many windows and cables, especially cables, which I consider break with the aesthetics of the place. These cables cross between one building and another and contain lamps that illuminate this section of Florida Street at night. It may be attractive but during the day it's not so attractive.

Corner of the Levalle Bookstore.

This bookstore is located on a corner between Florida Street and Corrientes Avenue, in fact it is the first time I have seen it since I almost never walk in this area. What's happening in this photo? Several groups of people are looking at their phones, possibly looking for an address to go while if you look closely in the background, there is a boy playing a guitar. In an area in addition to many street musicians who make a living doing this.

Also, two people are running to cross the avenue.

Buildings and trees.

It is said that each photographer sees things from a different perspective, on this occasion I wanted to take a photo in contrast with the natural, that is why on the left side is the urban (buildings) and on the right side the natural (tree branches and leaves).

These buildings make me see a set of vertical lines, that's what I see. In the background is the neighborhood of Puerto Madero.

Informal Seller.

In the commercial area of Florida Street, informal sellers do not miss the opportunity to work and sell their merchandise. Most place their blankets on the floor and usually offer handcrafted items such as bracelets, rings and a few other different accessories. I had the opportunity to capture this seller while he was taking his products out of his bag and in this way tidy up his sales stand to start his work day.

A Good Talk.

Oh yeah, this is one of my favorite shots. There is definitely something good here, a pleasant conversation, something curious already said and gestures of attention between these two people. This photo can mean a lot or can be interpreted in multiple ways depending on the vision of each observer.

A few seconds outside the store.

At this moment I was looking to do something different, I was leaning against the wall with the focal length at 200mm while two guys were leaning in the door of the store. These guys seemed to be employees and took a moment to go outside to get some air and look at the streets.

Here are two shots similar to the previous ones but this time focusing directly on the obelisk, the urban landscape and leaving the people in the background. The second photo has to do with the same concept as the first photo, it's nice to portray moments like those in the city.

What do you think about this set of moments captured in the downtown area of the city of Buenos Aires? Let me know your opinion.

Funny how a single street can be home to so many different stories, isn't it? And when you get to capture these moments with a camera, everything is even more authentic!!

I agree with you 😊 Each photo represents a story or there can be several in a single image. I love this thing about street photography and I also love the comment you left me and your nice words.

Ok bro 👍@jlinaresp

In 2019 i got to visit Argentina for the first time for two weeks.

I stayed in Buenos Aires and enjoyed the somewhat enchanting Latin American lifestyle. The Asado. The Tango. I used to read a lot of Borges and he would speak much on his beloved City.

I also visited the home of Rene Lavand....

(actually he was born in B.A), Tandil. What a wonderful little town!

La Plata too! I got to watch some great magic shows there.

I also got to meet Pablo, a very well known underground sleight of hand magician. Also Roberto Mansilla. Both wonderful people.

I really do miss Argentina.

PS - For anyone interested, here's a video compilation of mine travels. Skip to 39mins, where the Argentina sojourn is documented...
