He estado buscando la manera de escribir algún post, pero es que todo lo que ha pasado desde el 24 de junio parece increíble y una gran pesadilla. Por si no lo sabes el pasado 24 de junio Venezuela sufrió un doble terremoto que afectó principalmente Caracas y la Guaira. Recuerdo que esa tarde en casa en la isla de margarita pudimos sentir como temblaba pero nunca nos imaginamos que algo tan terrible pasaba con esto. Al rato de que se sentía el temblor comencé a revisar las redes sociales y nos fuimos enterando de lo que estaba pasando. Debido a la gran magnitud que está pasando en el país hay muchos centros de acopió.
I've been trying to find a way to write a post, but everything that's happened since June 24th seems unbelievable and like a nightmare. In case you didn't know, on June 24th, Venezuela suffered a double earthquake that mainly affected Caracas and La Guaira. I remember that afternoon at home on Margarita Island, we could feel the shaking, but we never imagined that something so terrible was happening. A little while after the tremor, I started checking social media and we gradually learned what was going on. Due to the magnitude of the disaster in the country, there are many collection centers.
Aunque no tenía dinero para comprar algo y donar. Busque en las cosas que quedaron mientras mi mamá estuvo en el hospital y quedaron muchos medicamentos, gasas, algunas inyectadoras y decidí que debía donar esto. Mi mamá en vida fue una mujer que ayudó mucho, así que que mejor manera de honrarla y hacer lo que ella hacía en vida que ayudar a los demás. Ella hubiera hecho esto y es donar lo que quedó así que prepare todo esto en dos bolsas para ir a donarlos ya que es tanto lo que se necesita. Son tantas personas muertas, miles de personas desaparecidas y heridas.
Although I didn't have money to buy anything to donate, I looked through the things left behind while my mom was in the hospital. There were a lot of medications, gauze, and some syringes, and I decided I should donate them. My mom was a very helpful woman, so what better way to honor her and do what she did in life than to help others? She would have done this: donate what was left. So I packed everything in two bags to take to the donation center, since so much is needed. So many people have died, and thousands are missing and injured.
Espere a mi mejor amiga y una de mis tias y nos fuimos a un centro de acopió, son muchos los centros de acopió en la isla. Nosotras decidimos ir a uno de los más grandes que está en la isla y es que hay estaba una amiga y le dije que iríamos a llevar donaciones. Mi tía llevo material quirúrgico, mi amiga llevó pañales, alimento para bebés y algunas otras cosas. Por más pequeña que parezca la donación todo suma.
I waited for my best friend and one of my aunts, and we went to a collection center. There are many collection centers on the island. We decided to go to one of the largest because a friend of mine was there, and I told her we were going to drop off donations. My aunt brought surgical supplies, and my friend brought diapers, baby food, and a few other things. No matter how small the donation may seem, every little bit helps.
Llegamos al centro de acopió y llegaba y se iba mucha gente, todos buscando como ayudar a organizar todas las donaciones a cargar los camiones. En media hora que estuvimos en este lugar se llenó un camión con todas las donaciones. Mi tía decidió que iría al día siguiente para ayudar y estuvo todo el día y dijo que fueron muchísimas personas a donar.
We arrived at the collection center, and lots of people were coming and going, all looking for ways to help organize the donations and load the trucks. In the half hour we were there, a truck was filled with all the donations. My aunt decided she would go back the next day to help, and she stayed all day. She said that a lot of people came to donate.
