Healing Wounds And Building Bridges Through The Act Of Kindness

THE POWER OF KINDNESS

Hello #scifimultiverse friends. I trust you are doing well. There is a popular saying that “no act of kindness, no matter how small, is wasted”. Kindness is an act of love, goodwill, mercy, charity, or support rendered to another without seeking anything in return.

History has revealed that many patriotic individuals, heroes, and leaders did not derive their popularity and status from the display of power and wealth, but rather from acts of kindness. That single act of encouraging a neighbour, friend, or colleague, assisting in time of need, reaching out to say hello. Looking out and standing in the gap for a close family member in the sickbed. Holding somebody’s hand in times of distress and uplifting weak souls in prayers are not forgotten in a hurry. They do leave a delible mark in the receiver's heart and also have a way of returning goodwill and other benefits to the giver.

After the employee has been attended to at the hospital.

Late last year, I was at home around 1:45 am (WAT) when I was woken up with a call from our factory coordinator informing me that there was an incident at the factory involving an employee using an auto machine. He informed me that his hand was broken while he was working on the baling machine, hence the need for the employee to receive instant medical attention.
Immediately, I reached out to our HMO Rep, contacted him, and
requested an ambulance to move the employee to the nearest hospital.

I followed up all through the night. I also left very early to meet with the employee and his family. Again, I followed through the process until he was discharged. I was happy that the employee returned to work after 6 months of sick leave. I also ensured that while he was on sick leave, his benefits were paid when due. At the end, I was happy that I helped.
Several times, people have shown me acts of kindness. Last weekend, I went to a shopping mall and, after picking some items, got to the counter. A man appeared from behind and whispered to the cashier to add the bill to his own and let me go. I was surprised because I didn’t recognise the man.

At that juncture, I requested to know him, and we stepped away from the queue. He happily explained himself to me. I helped his brothers secure employment in a firm 5 five years ago. I was very happy and surprised that such an act of kindness could return several years later in such a stylish manner.

Apparently, showing kindness is a value one cannot ignore. I have an employee who returned with a bill after using the HMO. Unfortunately, the treatment of ailments was not covered in our benefits plan. Though I have the right to reject it if it’s not covered in our plan. But when I slept over it, I was convinced that I could help the employee to secure a refund of half the bill. This is exactly my plan for the coming week. Though I didn’t inform the employee, I want it to be a surprise for him.

Deriving a way forward with employees at a meeting

Finally, showing kindness is priceless; if every one of us imbibe the culture of showing kindness to each other, starting from our home, the workplace, and society. We will make the world a better place. Wounds will heal quickly, broken hearts will be mended, while bridges will be built across paths, nations, and the world.
