SKILLS OR CERTIFICATE WHICH MATTERS MORE TODAY
Hello #scifimultiverse, I trust your day is going well. Welcome to my blog.

Skilled Employees Working On A Machine
A popular proverb says, “Knowledge is power, but the application of knowledge is wisdom”. I align with this proverb because in this fast-paced and competitive world, many changes are happening; hence the debate about skills versus certificates. Just like the debate on BSc versus HND. A story for another day.
A certificate is an official document that proves an individual has received formal education or training in a course over a certain period of time, and the details of the specific training or course. Conversely, skills are proof that an individual can execute duties beyond the pages of the certificate.
A certificate can help someone get a job or get invited for a job assessment, but the skills will reveal the candidate's competencies and further confirm that the individual is a good fit for the role.
For example, engineers, doctors, and software developers need certain certificates to qualify for a job role, but after that comes the real execution testing the individual’s capability in the role. At that point, if the individual lacks the required skills to do the job, the appointment might be terminated.
Though certificates matter during recruitment to give candidates access to the assessment, skills will open the door for further discussion and a successful outcome. We have witnessed situations where candidates were unable to defend the certificate they presented. Some will even obtain and present fake certificates.
Having said that, someone without a certificate may not compete with someone, because certificates carry face value. One needs to have a certificate, then learn other skills to have a combo. For example, during recruitment, certificates serve as basic requirements before skills. So, if one does not have the certificate, it will be difficult for the person to get to the point where the skills are required to execute.

Again, in some professions such as doctors, nurses, and lawyers, certificates are a must before skills. Again, skills can be learned within a short period; certificates are not.
In conclusion, certificates and skills are the varieties and spices that make us professionally balanced. The two are needed for one to be successful career-wise. There is no certificate without skill.
