RE: Fireworks!...?

We were traveling last weekend and we saw a surprising number of signs in peoples yard saying that they don't support a US King. It was interesting to see them. People in general have become much more openly political than they used to be and I am not sure that is a good thing.

Sort:

I think it may be better than apathy, but it's down to those who made politics more divisive. I see a lot of talk of the other side 'hate our country!', which is obviously untrue. People also get labelled as communists/marxists for just being a bit socialist. That is what is not good.

I think a lot of people do hate our country and it is quite sad. I know what you mean about about socialist ideas automatically putting you on the naughty list.

Do people really hate the country or just aspects of the government and society? There will be differences of opinion about what is best for it. Most countries have socialist policies around various services that taxes pay for. I think it's fair that the rich subsidise the poor for that to some extent. I'm not against people making a lot of money, but our societies are getting less equal over time. It's almost going back to feudal times.

I pretty much get the impression at least on HIVE and the Discords I hang out that most everyone outside the US hates us.

I don't think it's that simple. There's lots of things about the US I like including some parts of the culture and the landscapes. I've had good experiences there and met a lot of nice people. There have always been issues with the foreign policy and now the current regime is wrecking the reputation of the country. That and the issues some people have getting in are reasons I would not travel there right now.

You are one of the few exceptions I have met in my Internet travels!

Some people feel the need to express extreme opinions online. We have more in common than what divides us.
