As I said in my post yesterday, it's a bit hard to believe that 2024 is now behind us. I remember back in 2023 when @mrsbozz and I were just planning our trip to Colorado where the opening photo was taken. It seemed so far off and then before we knew it, bam, it was on top of us. Now as I type this, I am as far removed from that trip as I was when we were planning it.
Time really does fly!
If you are a Spotify user, you are probably familiar with their "Year in Review" feature that they added several years ago. I have little doubt you have probably seen all kinds of folks sharing their tailor made statistics into their social media feed. It actually is pretty interesting to see just how much music I have listened to over the past year and what the variety has been.
It's always a big shocking and it makes you wonder a little bit just how productively you are using your time. For me, I pretty much always have music on and I have little trouble being productive, so it is no big deal. In addition to that, music is subjective of course. What might have been a solid selection of artists for one person, might be a dumpster fire of crap for another one.
For example, if you don't like Taylor Swift, you are probably not going to like my Year in Review.
Actually, you might be a little surprised by my statistics. I know I was, and for that reason, I am going to share them with you as part of my #threetunetuesday post sponsored by @ablaze.

Wow, it would have been cool if I had been able to hit that 100K mark, but this will do. | The funny thing about this is, it only accounts for the songs that I played on Spotify. |

Almost 5000 unique artists... Can you guess who the top one was? If you guessed Taylor Swift, you would be right. I spent a total of just over 2200 minutes listening to Taylor Swift. To be fair, if she hadn't dropped her Dead Poets Society double album, I don't know if that would have been the outcome.

Instead, here is my list for you. Apparently I have a thing for moody women... Who knows. What I do know is that my top artists are definitely a pretty good representation of what I like. I'm not going to share my top five songs of the year because quite honestly, they are all Taylor Swift songs.
Although the White Album probably isn't my favorite album of theirs, it does have some really good songs on it. Sure, it's also got some weird songs that are really out there, but songs like "I Will" are a good reminder of just how amazing the Beatles can be when it comes to a sincere song like this. It's The Beatles, so I am not going to bore you with a ton of commentary here. I think quite honestly the fact that they made my top 5 speaks for itself.
This probably isn't the first time I have shared the song "Don't Get Me Wrong" with you by the Pretenders. It likely won't be the last time either as it is one of my favorite songs of all time. I remember earlier in the year I took a really deep dive into all things Pretenders and Chrissie Hynde. She is absolutely amazing in my opinion and if you only know their big hits that got played on the radio, you are doing yourself a tremendous disservice by not digging into them more.
In fact, if you get a chance to listen to some of their "newer" stuff, I highly recommend the song "You Can't Hurt a Fool". It's freaking amazing.
Finally, instead of leaving you with Taylor Swift or Bon Jovi as you may have guessed I would, I am going to share one of my favorite songs by Lana Del Rey. "Diet Mt. Dew" is just a really good jam. There is a certain mood I have to be in to listen to Lana, but when that mood hits, you better believe I am playing this stuff on repeat.
Her music is more than just words and tones, it exemplifies the whole mood that I am feeling at that time. Throw in a little moody drizzle coming down outside and you probably won't hear much from me for the rest of the day.
It's kind of the same way I feel about Jazz music. It's the sort of stuff you want to play in a dim room with rain coming down outside and a glass of bourbon in your hand. At least that's the way I feel.
Apparently we had a lot of rainy days in 2024 for her to sit so high in my list!
So there you have it, my year in review (musically) for 2024. What did your Spotify top five list look like?
