It was a rough night for my nieces team last night as they found themselves on the losing end of a run rule victory. It started off pretty good, but before too long the other team started hitting the ball quite well. In addition to that, the same thing that have been plaguing my nieces team for a couple years now started to show up. This is another tough loss on the heals of a close game last Thursday night that I actually got to attend.
With this loss, there is a good chance my nieces team is no longer in a four way tie for first place. The good news is, they are only about half way through the season, so they still have some time to put things back together. Next month, @mrsbozz and I are going to head back down to Ohio to watch them play in an annual tournament they have that includes the two other high schools in their district.
It's kind of crazy to me to think about something like that. I grew up in a small community where there was only one high school and one middle school. Yes, there were three elementary schools, but that had more to do with the large geographic area of the district versus the actual number of kids.
I currently work in a school district that is so small the high school and middle school are combined in the same building. It just blows my mind that a district could be so big they have three separate high schools, all functioning almost independently from each other.
My niece struggled a bit last night as well. Her hitting seemed not where she wanted it and she had a lot of infield outs that she just couldn't beat out to first base. Actually, her first hit looked like she made it clean to first base, but the official called her out. I would debate that call even if I wasn't her uncle!
The Lady Shamrocks have three more games this week, so I have a feeling they are going to be quite tired come the weekend. I think it might be prom for them this coming weekend, so that might be a good break for them after a hard week of work!
