NCAA Mens' Basketball Recap: Spartans Will

in Sports Talk Social13 hours ago

I'm actually a bit surprised to see that I didn't get any photos from the games this past weekend. I spent a good portion of my time on the couch watching Michigan State play on Saturday and I guess it never occurred to me to actually take a photo. With football still being the big draw this time of year, it's easy to forget that college basketball season has started.

That doesn't mean there aren't some great things happening around the country though. Today I wanted to give you a quick update on what has been happening in the top 25 over the last week. This will likely be a short post as I usually only cover upsets and the Spartans. Given it is so early in the season, there are a lot of cupcake games taking place which means very few upsets.

That doesn't mean there aren't any though, and last Friday (13) Purdue gave us our first one over (2) Alabama 87 to 78. It would seem even without Eddy, the Boilermakers are looking to continue the success they had last year. Too bad their football team can't follow suit!

Also on Friday, (23) Texas A&M took down (21) Ohio State 78 to 64, and Wisconsin beat (9) Arizona 103 to 88. How about those Badgers!

On Saturday there were no upsets in the top 25, but Michigan State had a really tough game against Bowling Green. BGSU was absolutely giving them fits and I am glad they came away with the win, but it is pretty clear they still have a lot of stuff to work on. Meanwhile, I wouldn't be shocked to see Bowling Green win their conference and maybe make it to the tournament this spring. They definitely have the pieces.

Once again, on Sunday there were zero upsets in the top 25.

Even on Monday we got more of the same. Gonzaga at number 3, Auburn at number 4, Iowa State at number 5, they all got wins. Meanwhile, with that big win last week, the Wisconsin Badgers found their way in to the top 25 at number 19.

Tuesday night gave us six games in the top 25, and finally we got another upset all thanks to (15) Marquette. Their 76 to 58 win over (6) Purdue will definitely put a damper on the Boiler Makers hopes of having a season like last year.

Meanwhile, the Spartans also played and though they haven't made it to the top 25 yet, they had a bit win over a Samford team that fought their way to the tournament last year.

Last night we had four games in the top 25, and none of them were upsets. (8) Alabama had a big 100 to 87 win over (25) Illinois.

We have a lot of games this weekend as usual. Nebraska is 3-1 on the season so far and they have a big game on Friday against (14) Creighton. The (12) Duke versus (17) Arizona game could be really good on Friday night too.

On Saturday you may as well just watch football because there are only four games in the top 25.

Then on Sunday, there are only two.

Check back next week for the update on all of those top 25 games plus more news on the Michigan State Spartans!
