It was a pretty exciting evening in Ohio last night as two players from the same high school on separate college teams faced off against each other. The reason this is so important is because both players went to the same high school that my nieces attend(ed).
The young lady you see in the photo above is Wisconsin freshman Tessa Grady. I've mentioned her before if you have been following my posts for any amount of time.
Don't let the score fool you, after halftime, the Ohio State Buckeyes came out in full force and opened up a can of whoop ass on the Badgers.
The final score ended up being 87 to 49 Buckeyes. Tessa Grady played 19 minutes and went 1 for 6 from the field. We actually got to see the three point shot she made.
Even cooler than that was the fact that my nieces whole basketball team as well as my inlaws got to go to the game and watch them play.
The crushing of Wisconsin by Ohio State was led by Jacy Sheldon who you see in the photo above. She also attended the same high school, so like I said, it was a reunion of sorts. Unlike Tessa, Jacy is a senior which means they likely only played one season together in high school if any at all. I can't remember if Tessa made the varsity team her freshman year of high school.
Anyway, Jacy finished the night shooting 6/12 with 27 minutes and 17 points. She's a pretty amazing player. Just remember, this is the same Ohio State team that took down Iowa and Caitlin Clark a short time ago.
It was pretty cool to hear the commentators talk about Tessa though and mention that she was freshman player of the week for the Big 10 a couple of weeks ago.
My niece had her own game on Wednesday night, but unfortunately they lost. They play again tonight against a team they beat pretty easily last time they met, so I hope it goes the same way tonight!
I already covered the games from Monday, but Tuesday night there were nine men's basketball top 25 games happening across the nation.
South Carolina started the action by upsetting #5 Tennessee. Meanwhile Georgia Tech didn't want to be left out and they took down #3 North Carolina by one point. #25 TCU used the home crowd to give them an advantage over #15 Texas Tech winning 85 to 78.
Those were all the upsets for Tuesday.
Wednesday brought us 7 top 25 games. Northwestern took #2 Purdue into overtime, but ultimately lost 105 to 96. Florida needed overtime to take down #10 Kentucky 94 to 91. Finally, Boise State had a huge upset over #19 Mexico State 86 to 78.
Last but not least, Thursday night there were two games in the top 25. The big one to take note of is Nebraska who came back from a 19 point deficit, took #6 Wisconsin into overtime and beat them 80 to 72. Well done Cornhuskers!
Tonight we have two games in the top 25. Of course anything in the Big East is going to be worth watching. It's just a great conference this year.
Saturday we have 14 games in the top 25, and Sunday we have three taking advantage of the lack of football.
Saturday I will be watching the game between Maryland and Michigan State which isn't a ranked game, but it will be an important one for the Spartans. It's actually hard to believe the Spartans have a winning record of 13-8 given how their season has went this year. The Terrapins are also 13-8, so it should be a good game.
If I had to pick a couple other games to watch on Saturday, it would probably be #4 Houston at #8 Kansas, and #16 Auburn at Ole Miss. Oh crap, there's actually a lot of potentially good games on.
#7 Duke at #3 North Carolina
#12 Iowa State at #18 Baylor
#5 Tennessee at #10 Kentucky
I wouldn't sleep on any of those games!
That Mississippi State at #24 Alabama game could be good too.
It might be worth it on Sunday to see if #6 Wisconsin can recover from their loss to Nebraska with a win over #2 Purdue. Also, Nebraska has a chance to pad their resume and maybe crack the top 25 with a win over #14 Illinois. Maybe...
It's definitely going to be an exciting weekend!
