Hmm this kind of scenarios boil my blood. I hate it when the innocent are being oppressed especially by the rich.
They know their son takes and deals in hard drug but instead of reprimanding him, they look for a way out and a scapegoat....tsk, tsk, tsk.
I don't blame the other friend for trusting a random lawyer, in that situation, he was being a good friend. The only issue I have with the second friend is that he also should have done something to reprimand the friend who took the hard drugs by allowing his friend face the music while he stands his ground as the innocent one.
Since the movie has already been played out, if I were the second friend, I would have nothing to do with that family or friend. Cutting ties and burn the bridge, good riddance to bad rubbish.
