From the title, it might seem like I'm going to be talking about drinking water, but that's not the case. I wanted to share some motivational thoughts that I came across while reading a book. I have heard someone say this proverb: "Problems are not created. Problems are invited". If we give a deep thought to this, we will be able to understand that most of the problems that we have are just because we invited them in one way or the other and they are not automatically created.
Coming back to the topic, when it is said that we shouldn't be drinking dirty water, it is about correcting the habit formation. Some things we know it is not right, but we would still be doing it. Some things we might think need changing, but we will still be doing it. Have we ever thought about drinking dirty water? When we know the water is dirty, we don't drink it and switch to drinking good water. But when it comes to habit, we still know that it is not a good habit but we do it again.
With this small example, we have to understand the difference and act accordingly. The moment we know that something we are doing is wrong, we should change it. The moment we know the water is dirty, we don't drink it. The main reason is that we know the consequences of drinking dirty water. When it comes to life, we don't worry too much about the consequences of doing something wrong or continuing a wrong habit. Sometimes we overthink and consider that the impact is not very big, and we continue to do the same bad habit. This is one of the strongest reasons why bad habits don't go away from us.
One thing we can do about this is that we shouldn't be convinced that it is okay to continue doing something that is not good. When we think too much, we have to think about the advantages of getting rid of the habit. That's what gives us motivation. We have to continuously think about the positives of the outcome of leaving some bad thoughts or habits. This way we will be able to restrict and prevent ourselves. The moment we start thinking that it is okay, we will not even worry if the water is dirty, and we will continue to drink it. We should never go to that extreme.
