Can microgreens be a potential solution for hunger problems in the world

in Natural Medicine13 hours ago

Hunger is just one part of the problem. The most important part of the problem is whether people are getting nutritious food. In some places, people don't get food at all, and that's one problem. But because of some charity initiatives, food is being given to them. But the next biggest part of the problem is whether they are given nutritious food or a balanced diet. Cost becomes one of the primary reasons why nutrition is not reaching every individual. Some people don't eat healthy food because they are ignorant, and some people don't eat because they cannot afford nutritious food.

Density of nutrition

When a food is packed and given to an individual, the package must have all the nutrients an individual needs as part of their meal. Not all the nutrition can be compressed inside a small container. This is where microgreens play a very important role. By nature, they have a high density of nutrition where they are very small in size but they have enough nutrition for a human being. This also means that people can consume less food and get all the nutrition they need.

Sometimes we might have to eat a lot of green vegetables and healthy foods to get all the nutrition. But with microgreens, just a small quantity can cover a lot of volume and that's why it is best to include microgreens in our food.

They grow faster

It takes only a few days for the microgreens to grow. Unlike other vegetables and other food items, microgreens can be cultivated in a very small space, and it can grow faster compared to the other things. In a containerized environment, this can be a suitable crop that can also provide a yield more frequently compared to other vegetables.

Cost-effective and consumes less space

We don't need a big land to cultivate microgreens. It can just be done on our rooftop. We have to just know some basic things like dos and don'ts, just to be sure that we are getting the best result out of it. People who have poor soil quality can also start doing this because it does not matter which soil type we use. It can also be a cost-effective, highly nutritious food.

Solving hunger problems

They say there are ways to process microgreens so that they can also be used as a food supplement. It is not necessary that we have to consume it immediately. Some companies have attempted to convert it to some other form so that it can be stored and used frequently. I don't know if this will solve the hunger problem. I think the reason why they say this is because it is easy to cultivate and it can be brought to the market for a very cheap price, and can be made affordable for every individual. So it becomes the nutrition at a cheaper price.

they sell them at supermarkets here, but i didn't know they had so much nutrition compared to other green vegetables!

After reading this post, I had to go online to browse to know what micro greens are and their examples before coming back to comment. Thank you for sharing, at least I have learnt something new today

I didn't really know about microgreen until I read from your page. Humans need to do more of charity. No matter how rich we are we aren't taken anything to heaven so I believe our focus should be in serving the humanity. Food is important and it is an essential part of us.

Similarly, eating good vegetables is very important for good health for all of us and should be in every country.

Unfortunately they are not as popular as the normal vegetable, because they are kinda new and also they are branded as premium in some places and more popular in the vegetarians community which somehow tend to be a little bit expensive.
but surely it can be a faster and cheaper option for some if they can grow on their own.

Indeed, focusing on the nutritional value of food is what makes the real difference in the fight against hunger and malnutrition.
