Art and Creativity Journal: Things Work... Until They Don't

in GEMS19 days ago

So, I managed to make it 13 weeks into my good intentions of making a weekly post of creative work from the previous week. And then things pretty much fell apart.

I have pretty much attempted periodic "scheduled challenges" since entering adulthood and I would have to admit that virtually all of them have failed for one reason or another. That seems to have been especially true when it comes to creative challenges.

The easy out would be to just claim that I'm not a routine sort of person, but there's something deeper there. I just don't like the sense of obligation that invariably goes with this kind of challenge. It seems to rub me the wrong way, and ends up stifling creativity rather than encouraging it. I don't like feeling like I "have to" do something creative.

Rather than trying to backfill, or start anew, I'm just going to let this one slide and accept that I'm ill-suited to following this kind of routine. Of course, having to do taxes in the middle of all of it did not help the situation. But it's still not a good excuse.

And chances are that I will probably pick up on a similar challenge at some point in the future, get a ways into it, and eventually end up not finishing. But I'm going to also accept that as being okay.

Anyway, this means I'm back to posting on a more irregular schedule, whenever I have the time or inclination to do so, and whenever I have something happening that I feel is worthwhile posting.

Maybe there's something slightly ironic in writing this, in that my weekly work posts we're starting to feel a little bit like people's Actifit posts... which — while valid —often are of little consequence to anyone other than the OP.

Meanwhile, it is time to get back into the swing of getting recently finished stones added to the Etsy store.

I launched into that particular project with great enthusiasm, but then got derailed by various other things in my life clamoring for attention... from home maintenance to doing taxes... and the process ground to a halt. My "short little span of attention" didn't really help in the matter!

However, I'm feeling ready for another burst of activity, so hopefully that will enable me to finish the task and have the Etsy shop fully stocked, and all "loose" stones accounted for.

Thank You!

Because I am trying to make some semblance of income — a part time living, even — I now add this footer to all my posts, in the hope that someone, somewhere, might decide to take a further look at my work, and perhaps consider supporting independent art.

Thank you, in advance, for your consideration and support!
