Often times, I give my best to projects. I believe projects should be carried out with diligence till completion but for once, I felt showing commitment depended on what the particular project was about. When I learnt about it, I paid no commitment to the project at all. It was a project my family embarked on-- about our family house in the village.
Read on to hear my reasons.
I come from a family of eight, though Daddy is no more. Many years after he died, My brothers- both elder and younger ones; all four, came together to discuss on how to repair Daddy"s house in the village.
I am a female and married, as such, they felt it was not necessary to involve me financially. But when they called to let me know about their conclusion, I told them repairing the house in the village was unnecessary.
HERE'S WHY
I felt it was unnecessary because, even before My Daddy died, the tenants in the house were full of excuses. They hardly pay their rent as at when due. When Mum visits the Village to draw the rentage, the tenants behave as if they had planned not to pay. Sometimes they promise to give the money to my Uncle's wife but when they do, the money is never completed.
Then my Daddy decided to evict them all from the house. Before long, a couple who owned a School became interested and My Daddy thought a School would be better. He renovated the flat for them, even dug another toilet outside, just to make them very comfortable. He painted it and it was very beautiful.
The School paid the first year rent but when it expired, they couldn't renew. Their excuse? Students are owing School fees! . It's like building a house first in the village is a mistake! . Well, its a matter of choice. For some, building in the village shows you have achieved well in the city. They view it as top priority.
Now when Daddy found that the School could not pay, yet their population kept on increasing, he concluded that they were actually trying to play smart, so he evicted them also.
Again? Wow. Now, who could pay? How much is this pay? A house in the village is not worth anything serious! So Daddy decided to leave the flat without tenants for sometime.
Then one day, a Cousin of his visited. He told Daddy that leaving a house without Occupants damages the house. Dad mentioned his ordeals with tenants to him but his Cousin begged that his family moves in. This Cousin of his was older than him. How could he even be living in the village still on rent! My Daddy sympathized with him. So Daddy decided to give the house for free. He told him and his family to move in without paying a dime but demanded that they took care of the house. We thought that was fine.
But this Cousin and his family spoilt the house. First in a beautiful house used for a school, the man made the front of the house a palm wine joint. He built a tent with palm fronds in front of the house and sold palm wine, pepper soup and cigarette. When Daddy heard, He went there to tell him to remove the palm fronds, that the house is for living, not for business.
The outside toilet Daddy dug for the School was like a public toilet, no lock. Even those going to the farm could stop and use it for their convenience.
Finally, when my family heard so much of their nonsense, My Daddy concluded he would evict them because he has seen that they just want trouble.
Before evicting them, my Mum decided to pay them a visit in a bid to talk to the wife. Behold, my Mum met the wife pounding in the sitting room. I do not know her reason but it just doesn't make sense. When my Mum ordered that she takes the mortal to the kitchen or outside to pound, by the time she raised the mortal up, Mum found that they had broken the floor with pounding. It was habitual of them to pound there. Finally they were evicted.
Some years later, Daddy died and was buried in that house in the village. No one lived there for years and we heard it is dilapidating. Now my brothers want to repair it again. For who?
Why would any one want to waste Millions repairing a house in the village? I tried to warn them not to, but they blackmailed me into believing that a place where our Father was buried can not be left ugly. But to me, the dead do not see. I loved him so dearly, we really xan not let the house collapse anyways.
Well, I did not show any support or commitment to the repair all the same but they did. Now I learnt it is befitting.
They re-roofed it and made new doors and other interior repairs.
I didn't show commitment and support because I would have preferred if they paid attention to the one in the city where Mum lives and where we all come for holidays.
They could fence it, put a big gate for security and build shops in the left over other piece of land, so that Mum would have company and also make money from the rent. Well, it will still be done, no doubt.
Besides this incidence, there may be ine or two other instances i showed lack of commitment too. Like taking drugs. I hardly finish my dosage 😄. Once there is sign of healing, I dont remember the drugs again except someone brings it with water and stands nearby ordering that i take it instantly. 😄 I also dont commit to exercises. Once I start feeling the pain, i take a long break. 😄 Besides these minor cases, I love seeing projects succeed. This is my participation in the @hivelearners challenge that ends today.
