When I was in High School, my sister was already in University. She was way ahead of me and used tell me about university life. Honestly, those stories made me want to be in university because what was more than being able to cook my own food or sleep anytime I wanted. It smelled like freedom to me.
She was also very reserved in high school just like how I was but for some reasons, she chose to be outgoing in University. None of her friends were calm or reserved. They all were “wild”. Talk of the life of a party, always going to places, having all the fun they could have.
One thing about these friends of hers was they didn’t really care about their grades.
Most of them even deferred their courses at a point because they felt stressed. Stressed from whatever known to them.
Eventually, one of them (let’s call her Efa) got pregnant in school. At that time, they were in their final year almost done with school. I know pregnancies aren’t so smooth but according to my sister, Efa had one of the roughest pregnancies she had ever seen.
It broke her to the core. She had no choice than to defer her courses so she would go back to school to continue later. Thankfully, Efa gave birth to a really beautiful daughter, she looked just like her. We paid her a visit after her delivery and upon arrival, the baby was crying so loud.
Her grandma had carried her saying
“Degreena don’t cry, Degreena don’t cry”.
We didn’t really pay attention until Efa actually came and we asked of her baby’s name only for her to say Degreena Jones. Jones made sense because that was the baby daddy’s name but wait..Degreena??
Alright, that was fine but when we were told the reason, we just couldn’t hold our laughter.
Apparently, Efa’s mother named the baby Degreena because when she sent her daughter to school for a degree, she came home with a baby so that’s her own Degree after all.
Efa didn’t even go back to continue her Degree so maybe her mother was right after all, her baby was really her Degree.
