Doing business promotion on Social media

in #socialmedia15 days ago

When it comes to marketing and selling, it is something I am very poor at. I cannot make any type of sales face to face. My negotiation skills are not very good. If I have to sell something and the person would ask for lower price without much of effort in getting a higher price, I will give it up. Somehow, I feel very shy when it comes to doing negotiations. I always feel what will the other person think if I ask for more price, will they think I am greedy for money....haha.

When I started my Airbnb, I outsourced the marketing part of it. I was very skeptical of doing it. I tried also in the beginning and I realized that people were taking advantage of my poor skills. I always felt they had an upper hand on me and I would succumb to their demand price. But over this one year, I have managed to stabilize myself on this front. I have started doing marketing on my own and thanx to some of the social media platforms, that makes it easy for me to handle the job.

I majorly use Instagram, I can run ads there which can reach out to a large number of people and I do not have to do any convincing to sell my product. With the ads whoever is in need they directly contact me. In the past I have had bad experiences with Facebook. There was hardly any visibility of my page even with paid promotions and for those very few who would reach out were all meaningless, and I would feel that all of these platforms are doing a thug business. But then my friend advised me to try out Insta, she was using it and she mentioned to me that it is really helpful.

I tried it out and I started getting good response. Most of my marketing and sales is now through Instagram only, and a few other sources. I do not have any direct interface here so I am good with it. I don't know the opposite person, I cannot see them, so I am more confident when I am interacting with them. And yes, with time, I guess I am getting the confidence of marketing.

All these years, I never ventured into any marketing activity thinking I can never do it, but now I am feeling with help of these tools I can do it. At the beginning the agencies I worked with for marketing purpose had heavy fees, they would take a cut of almost 20% to 30%, now that I have started managing a big part of it on my own, I am also able to get more in my pocket saving up on those commissions. Still, sometimes some customers are very good at bargaining, but slowly gradually I am learning to be firm with them and at the most refuse them completely.

Currently, I am only working on Insta, but I am thinking of starting to use YouTube also. With time I guess I will be able to manage it all by myself. While online marketing is becoming easy for me, I am sure face to face is still going to be a challenge.

Thank you for visiting my blog. 👼🏻👼🏻💖💖🌹🌺🌸

I'm delighted to read that you're stepping up your game and becoming more confident in the marketing and sales realm. Double down on what works. If Insta gets you results, excellent. Are you setting up the ads natively inside Insta, or do you use Facebook/Meta Business Suite - Ads Manager? The latter has very granular targeting options you might want to look into, if you're not using it already.

The more experience you gain and the more comfortable you become with testing, the better your game gets.

I am using the Meta Business suite, I am seeing the difference between the two. The native ones are not very effective.
Thank you @krisrokk, with experience I am scaling up and necessity and pushing is driving me to learn new ways

I think with time and practice you'll become good at marketing. I also used to have this perception that selling/marketing was a very hard thing to do, and that I was just begging instead of exchanging value for value :D

I am not sure of that, but I am happy, for what I need to sell, I am finding that confidence. You said the right word, begging. Even I was feeling like that at times

My negotiation skills are not very good. If I have to sell something and the person would ask for lower price without much of effort in getting a higher price, I will give it up. I feel very shy when it comes to negotiating. I always feel what will the other person think if I ask for more price, will they think I am greedy for money....haha.

I think almost everyone has a similar experience and opinion on that.

In the first place, many do not like to opt for a marketing role. And many think that marketing is a kind of stigma where one has to beg in front of someone to sell their products, and when one does tha,t it comes at the expense of self-respect.

Setting aside this perception and/or stigma, what I personally feel is that marketing should always happen in a passive way, where two parties who wanna fulfill their needs through a trade/transaction come together in a passive way, with fluidity of data & interconnectedness, then the things will become more intresting for either party.

But fluidity of data does not develop in a day, for that we have to have the social profiling and needs, lifestyle habits of people. That is what big tech does and pushes those ads on YouTube or insta. "Being-in-the-world" in the digital area has been reduced to a series of clickable interactions, a philosopher has said this.

Very well said. Slowly, gradually I am gaining this confidence to be firm with my prices and not easily give into negotiations. Nowadays if someone bargains way too much with me, I ask them. If you are poor and cannot afford then let me know, I will give it to you for free.....haha. It's ok, i do not regret if I loose such customers.

👍👍👍

Well, I think that's the same case that I face, I also feel really very shy and weird on my part and just stop this at time!
That's great to hear about the marketing strategy in which you are involving yourself. That's good.!

Thank you. I guess when it falls on you as a necessity and you have no choice you automatically scale up
