A Lesson in Probabilities Through @risingstargame Pack Opening

There are times where more abstract concepts can be taught with a simple example. I am going to use a real even as a way to provide a demonstration of a certain concept. I am not even going to reveal its official name. What I need is the readers to understand the thought process; not repeating a memorized set of words.

First, let me ask a question. What is the chance of getting "Head" in a coin flip? If the first coin flip was "Tails", what are the chances of getting "Head" in the next coin flip? If there were 10 coin flips in a row with "Tails" (1 in 1024 chance), what is the chance of the next coin flip resulting in "Head"?

I Bought 12 Booster Packs

When there is a new Seasonal Special Mission, I buy 12 Booster Packs to get the Special Cards that allow me to complete the Season specific Mission where I can earn various Instruments which have gameplay utility. In most scenarios I do find the Card I want when I open 12 Packs. The reason why I specifically buy 12 Packs should be evident when you look at the following page.

Anyone with @keychain installed can get started with the game without spending anything. INLEO is the best onboarding funnel for those who don't have a HIVE account. Lite Accounts and Keystore are not universally supported, but sometimes, I find it better to let people take things slow and try out HIVE in a more comfortable way first. I did not have to do that, but I do tend to significantly deviate from the norm.

It can help you decide if you want to spend 10,0000 STARBITS (or 16.67% less when purchased in bulk) for a chance of finding a S92 Mrs Clause. There are 353 Cards issued so far.

Results of Opening 12 Booster Packs

As you can see, there was no S92 Mrs Clause or any Epic or Rare Cards. It is guaranteed to have at least 1 Card in Rare rarity or better. In other words there is a 100% probability that there will be no more than 2 Common Cards in a single Booster Pack. I don't know what the exact drop rate for various rarities are. What I know is that chances for Common is less than 66.67%.

Each Dice Role is Independent

You may know what happened before. That does not mean the dice (or the algorithm) is conscious about it. I would add a little bit of science explanation from Veritasium. According to the theory, it is even possible for a heat to transfer from cold to hot. The reason we do not experience this in our ordinary lives is because it is an extremely unlikely event. Maybe this has something to do with "miracles".

I have shown examples of statistics at play in a blockchain based game. I cannot simplify these any further. I do not think I have to simplify any further.
