Tropical high-mountain agroforestry and productive ecological restoration in Líbano, Tolima, Colombia.

Here is an example of our agroforestry as ecological restoration work in Tolima, Colombia. This lot was originally monoculture coffee crops, and now it is a mixed spread of native trees, bushes as well as ornamental and agricultural crops including turnip, potato, cassava/yuca and pineapple.
In this picture a native tree known locally as lombricero tree (Alchornea glandulosa), is being topped (coppice) so that more light can be let in. The living post will likely reshoot, and the trunk/stump can be used in the meantime, even if the result is the tree dying. Eventually, on death the wood will serve as a good post, while its roots decompose in the ground, feeding fungal networks.
Lets go take some more pictures! With this new restoration group I am more motivated than ever to keep documenting our progress.
