Waterfalls: one of nature's postcards I'm most fond of. And also, this week's theme for Qurator's Photo Quest!
I've visited countless waterfalls in my travels, and no matter how big or small, I always enjoyed seeing them. Alas, one of my dream trips is to Iguaçu falls, a destiny that's been eluding me for far too long! Good thing is, I also have nice waterfalls in my own country to marvel at, while I don't make the trip.
This time, I'm choosing only national waterfalls, and not by far the most imponent ones. But ones I'm really fond of, since I swam in some of these waters since my childhood.

The current is nowhere near this in summer, and the water level is likely half of the one in these photos, since these were taken in early Spring. There's no doubt the waterfalls look way more beautiful with all this water, though.
This region is near Serra da Estrela, the highest point in continental Portugal. You can expect small mountain rivers filled with little and not so little waterfalls, if you visit the area. Even in the newest walkways (the ones I've visited recently and have yet to post about... as usual...) there are pretty decent waterfalls to admire!

Such as this "crown jewel", the cascata do Caldeirão (Cauldron's waterfall) that has its dedicated belvedere. It does take climbing some stairs (or descending them...) to appreciate it properly, but the show is definitely worth it.
The photos don't do it justice, given that this one is bigger than it looks here, and looks amazing flowing between the narrow rocks.
But as I said before, in what concerns waterfalls, beauty here is independent from the size...

Even the tiny ones have their charm! I'm probably biased though , since I love to see water flowing by.

What do you think? 😉
