Protonmail False Sense of Security and Privacy

in #protonmail9 months ago (edited)

Seems proton mail does have aliases for custom domains too. Obviously, this isnt a proxy so I can see how its not as good. I just struggle to see how using a proxy like that might be better than just using a temporary disposable email. Well I can understand it, i guess i just struggle with finding a use case personally lol.
Since you can have unlimited receive-only aliases with proton but only like 10 send-recieve aliases. I can see why it could be useful to have something like addy.io if u have so many aliases. Lets say you have multiple aliases, one for movies@xyz.addy.io, one for medical@xyz.addy.io, etc. lets say one day the movies alias gets leaked, then they realise you’re using that domain xyz.addy.io and go scouring thru databases to link you together. Finally they find medical@xyz.addy.io which you might be sending sensitive data with. I’ve heard that protonmail folds easily under subpeonas. Its kinda why i just use gmail rn. I struggle to find a situation with email where I wouldn’t be providing myself a false sense of security (since email is already not rlly secure or private anyways).

Other providers like mullvad and signal also follow all laws, they just dont have information to share. But protonmail has been known to provide sensitive information upon subpeona request. That is why I just use gmail, because I don’t want to provide myself a false sense of privacy that does not exist. I am looking into other mail providers but i havent found any good ones yet.
