A Slice of... The Man Behind the Keyboard

in #philosophylast year (edited)

I've been sitting here waiting patiently for a delivery that's running late, and decided "what the heck, let's write a post." But what about? In my last post, I discussed AI, but felt I wanted to talk about me in this one.

You see, I've been here for quite awhile. Since the early days of Steemit, to the notable schism, likely resembling the one between Rome and Constantinople (I can't figure out which one we are, but I'm leaning towards Hive representing the Eastern Empire, more forward-looking and erotic exotic). :)

Small-Town, Country Values, In The City

If you've been reading my stuff for awhile, you'll know I'm in a sketchy spot in the rust belt, and on the "wrong" side of the Appalachians. A city boy, whose parents and grandparents were raised on farms in the south.

So even though I was born and grew up in the city, I was raised with small-town, country values.

As young as the age of ten, I considered a handshake agreement to be rock solid. It told me who you were as a person. I mean who wouldn't keep their word, right? You know, unless something huge came up that offered a reasonable out. My mom and grandmom carefully watched when the "city boys" came over, and didn't want me growing up like them.

Thus, I was cloistered away like those Jesuit "Brothers" who I called Monks, in their rough garb, who invited me to join them at their monastary when I was older. They travelled in pairs, ans were always so warm with me, and willing to share their faith.

I wanted to be one of them.

However, I can still remember the absolute horror, when at the age of 10 (or was it 12?), I announced that I wanted to join the Catholic church and become a Jesuit "Monk."

You'd have thought I was announcing that I was actually one of those pod people, and was about to depart in a flying saucer to my new home in the Sirius star system.

I couldn't understand what all the fuss was about...

A family intervention ensued, with the pleas of my beloved grandmother carrying the day. Something called The Spanish Inquisition, and The St. Bartholomew's Day Massacre, were explained to me in gory detail. I was also made to read a shortened edition of Foxe's Book of MartyrsPDF.

Quite a lot to visit upon a little boy, right?

And that, as they say, was the that! :)

Forged In The Fire

I've seen a lot of adversity in my life. In fact, one could say I've been through the crucible, a strong sense of honor and fair play, forged as with a hot iron.

As an adult, I've always said that "A wise man listen's more than he speaks." And that, "you can't learn, if you're not listening."

Empathy, compassion, and LOYALTY, mean a lot to me. I also tend to notice little things that other's don't, hence the moniker: 'EverNoticeThat.' I'd see those quiet, shy people known as wallflowers, then go over and GENTLY engage them in conversation.

I'll swim upstream if necessary, and while friends are nice, I won't let peer pressure shape my morals.

If you're a decent person, I'll stand by you when everyone else bails. I've proven that over and over again. Your good heart has to count for something, and your kind efforts on behalf of others deserves to be rewarded.

At the same time, I believe that we all make mistakes in life and deserve a chance to come back from them. I don't believe in kicking a man when he's down. Remember the lesson of the humiliation of Germany in WWI. If you defeat your opponent, don't degrade him in victory. Reach out your hand and lift him up. As you might be in his place one day.

However there is a time to be absolutely ruthless when it comes psychopaths and narcissists. These vermin don't have that little Governor in their heads like we normal people do, who stops them when they've gone too far.

When necessary, crush them completely.

That's a little slice of me. Everything we've been through makes us who we are today. Every day above ground is a good one, and a life well lived is its own reward. Live yours well.

The swimming upstream comment hit home for a recent chain of events. A long term friend that I’ve known for almost half a decade recently messaged me about concerns with me joining in on web3 tech, learning more about the political beliefs that I’m not a part of, and a random social media post that I didn’t spend enough time polishing up for mass consumption and ended up being very offensive when read the way she read it.

Last time we talked, she made the ultimatum that I either quit the path I’m on or we’re done. I’m on a path of growth and expansion. Our friendship immediately ended in that moment.

A post like this was needed for me. Thanks for being there. Keep up the good work.

First off, thank you for your kind compliment, and I'm glad you found some value in my post. Your situation with your former friend got me to wondering if you saw any of this coming from her, or was it a complete shock to the system?

The web3 part reminded me of when I first learned about Bitcoin back in 2009, and spread the word about the blockchain being the future, causing people to back away from me thinking that crypto was somehow counterfeit currency!

Small minds, who can't see the far horizon, and imagine the possibilities that lay just beyond.

The ultimatium from her surprised me, as I could think of far more important things with which to rend a friendship over. But I think you made the right choice, and can continue being your authentic self.

Bravo! and keep moving forward! :)

It was coming for awhile. We had fought a few times like normal friends over the years. Anything politics based or related to mental health were where we didn’t see eye to eye but neither of us actively went out to touch either topic.

What really started this chain was me leaving Twitch (streaming platform) and experimenting with Trovo, Rumble and Vimm, all of which were red flags for various different reasons.

Rumble has many Alt Right political activists on the front page due to its lax rules towards censorship but in the past few months has been actively working towards drawing in games, art and less politics based content. The tech is also very cool and they recently dropped some major quality of life features that most platforms don’t currently have.

Trovo is ran by Tencent and has a large Russian community despite being global and having a pretty rich and varied community (ala Twitch like).

Vimm is the Hive native streaming platform. Web 3 is associated with criminal enterprises and alternative organizations (to much of the common man). Simple enough.

Anyone from any of these platforms would be “evil” and “crazy” were her terms and all I had to do was leave them; all would be forgiven. I had never seen that side of her and her full concern was related to being associated with me being dangerous for her social presence.

The final straw was a random satire about contraception (which was not smart on my part at all; I deserved anger about that).

I listen to the No Agenda Show podcast, and it's interesting how people around me infer certain things just because of that.

However, I listen, watch, and read from a lot of different sources. I can be on "Huffpo" one minute, and watching Tucker on "X" the next. I hate censorship, and I don't like people telling me what I CAN'T watch, listen to, or read.

I don't share my politics on Hive (hardly at all), as I want there to be at least one place where I can post without the rancor I saw on Twitter.

We're more alike than we are different, and we all want to thrive and prosper.

I live in a city (and suburbs) that is Bernie Country. However, once you get into the exurbs and the rural areas, you're into pure Trump Country, with signs and flags EVERYWHERE.

The city people think that everyone in the county is just like them politics-wise, and the people in the exurbs think everyone is conservative like them, and are shocked when they come into town and see just how far left it is.

Some people can't see the forest for the trees...

We're all living in our own personal bubbles and need to break out for some fresh perspective.

What I consume information-wise, doesn't define me. As you can't learn if you don't listen.

However there is a time to be absolutely ruthless when it comes psychopaths and narcissists. These vermin don't have that little Governor in their heads like we normal people do, who stops them when they've gone too far.

When necessary, crush them completely.

Yup! Someone has to do it!

Right? Some people have no morals, and deserve no consideration in return.

Exactly!

Yay! 🤗
