Introduction
@ablaze has been doing 3 tune Tuesday for quite a while and we love the idea of it and some of the posts @stickupmusic has been doing it but I though I would join in too. it is a great way to listen to new music which is always something we want to do!
Our picks
This week we are all about the sweet sounds of Sonhoy Blues which is described as "dessert Blues" they were from west Mali and got pushed out of their home by civil unrest. There unique sound of pure blues, some relentless blues guitars and rhythms and the hypnotic nature of their music makes them a must listen if you like blues.
Song 1
"Soubour" was the first song we heard by them and I think it took about 10 seconds and we were hooked on their sound. This is unbelievable cool and it just rolls along. Now separate the guitars, the rhythms and the vocals and listen to what they are doing. this is flawless blues.
Song 2
Now "Sahara" has a more bluesy funky feel to it than some of their other songs and has a more traditional blues structure. They got a little funk beat on this one and also a little melody which could almost be from a reggae album. Then if you listen to the lyrics which are in English it again makes this music a strange fusion of cultures and genres.
Song 3
Now the last song takes it all the way to funk... this song has a political stance from what I read about it, it is a big part of their inspiration as artists. It has a traditional funk guitar on it and some cool lead guitar as ever. Then they bought brass in for this tune which gives it a much less blues feel feel and a pure funk vibe.
Bonus track
Too funky and fun to miss off and has a great bass/synth riff!
We love all types of music and hope that you like our choices!
Big up all the music in the world and the joy we get making and listening to it!
