My response to the @Indiaunited Contest Theme- : "Will Your Job Exist in 10 Years? Exploring the Future of Work"
With the growing AI technology this is the question that keeps surfacing time and again. Will our jobs exist and be secured in the age of AI?
The world is rapidly shifting, technology is moving faster in this era then any other time, and we are reaching to a stage where we will co-exist.
If I talk specifically about my job which is HR, I believe it will 100% exist but there will be major changes in it. AI will also be a part of it. Right now also it's there but at a smaller scale, in future AI contribution will be more, but for sure the human side of the job will not go away.
If we look back some centuries ago, people lived differently, all jobs were more manual, but then with time innovation kept happening and we kept shifting from manual to automation. I am sure people in that time may have felt the same insecurity. So from that time while some of the old jobs went away, new ones came into existence. And it's going to continue in similar manner. We will keep progressing and while some of the old ways of doing things and old jobs get done with, new ones will emerge. The onle difference is we will have to keep learning new technologies and new ways and those will become the new jobs.
Recently on my holiday to Japan, I observed one thing. They are the most technologically advanced and yet they have the most number of manual jobs as well. They have already learned to co exist. While the machines are doing the jobs, people are supervising it and giving the human touch to the experiences. That's the new way of life.
Some years back I had also got into this mode where I was feeling technology progress is all bad and it's going to eat up our lives but with time my understanding has changed and I realise that was a wrong way of thinking. After all change is the only constant thing in the world. Every century has made their own progress and moved ahead.
To answer in short, Will my job exist?
Answer is, Yes it will and probably in new ways.
