We are living around snakes

in Indiaunited2 months ago

This afternoon I received a call from one of our neighbours saying that he spotted a snake. He initially thought it was a tiny one but then he found it moving to the next house. I was interested in seeing the snake and immediately went to my next house. All this happened in their backyard.

The biggest concern for all of us was to know if it was a venomous snake or not. If it was not a venomous snake, it shouldn't be a big issue but still who would not fear a snake? When I went there we found a spot where the snake was hiding. It was not an aggressive one, it was a silent one. I thought it was just a rat snake but some people said that it was a venomous one. I couldn't judge properly. Maybe others who know very well about snakes can tell which one it is.

So, to continue the story, we had to wait to bring a snake catcher. We had a few contacts and we tried reaching out to them. The snake catcher was a local guy fortunately so he was able to reach faster. The snake catcher was from a community called Irular which is well known for their snake catching capabilities. Their ancestors are well known for catching snakes. They are skilled in this particular thing. When he reached here, he had some herbs in his hand and he was continuously smelling them. They use some herbs to make sure they are safe while catching. They know the right herbs to use. Some herbs help in calming down the snake while catching and some herbs safeguard them even if they get a bite.

The overall expectation was to catch it without hurting it. But unfortunately, they missed it at the first instance and the snake moved in the wrong route and tried to enter a hole. He somehow caught the top of the tail and pulled it out. I believe today the snake was not in the mood to fight or be aggressive. But the helper guy who came with the snake catcher got a bit nervous and started beating the snake. The snake got a bit hurt a little bit with sticks but thankfully it was indeed alive when they took it from here. I got a chance to take a photo of the snake. I couldn't get it with great quality but it was a good photo.

It was a good thing to catch this because about a month back I saw snake skin pealed off in our garden area. I showed it to our family and that's when I thought it was roaming somewhere here and might get caught someday. We were a bit nervous because there are kids at home and they sometimes play in the garden and it can be dangerous. The snake catcher would take it to a faraway place and release it. There will be no chance that it will come back again. It was good to get it moved because it is safe for the locality.

Wow, that's a very huge snake, thankfully it got caught, it could be a threat to people living around.

I never knew there can be anything like snake catchers in the world
Do you really feel happy that the snake is alive?

Yes we did not want to do any harm to the snake.

Great experience 👍. Good it did not harm anyone and all are safe and sound.

Wow!
This is actually my first time to hear about snake catchers.
For snakes, I think it's hard to identify a venomous and non venomous one and as such, once it's seen, people get scared.

Thank God for that catcher

I’m surprised that some people’s job is catching snakes
Anyway, the snake looks scary and I’m more scared with the way the man held it

In my country they are quite rare and those that exist are not so dangerous, at least something good for us.
