Hello friends, happy day to all. The long absence from my posts has literally been because I've been focused on my old dog, Lucky, yes, the oldest member of my pack, who's already 12 years old. After four peaceful years without the illness he was diagnosed with six years ago, it's returned and caught us by surprise.

In the case of kittens, according to the veterinarian who has been treating them since the beginning, this inflammatory disease prevents urine from passing through the urinary tract, which is naturally very narrow, causing them significant pain and bleeding when they strain during urination.
As I posted years ago, Lucky has suffered from this problem for about six years. He was treated clinically and at home, allowing him four peaceful years. However, for some reason, the illness flared up a few days ago, and we had to take him to the emergency vet over the weekend. There, he was kept under observation for many hours, and an IV was inserted in his paw to administer fluids and medication.
The treatment consisted of antibiotics (intravenous and oral), a urinary tract antispasmodic, intravenous hydration, oral fluids (water, broths), wet food, and mineral oil later for constipation. We completely stopped giving him kibble, even though it was a special product for kittens with kidney problems (it was preferable to rule out any possibility of a relapse).
From now on, his diet continues to be special and prepared at home, and his urine must be monitored regularly. The tricky part about our kittens becoming clinically ill is that their naturally nervous nature leads them to become stressed, which causes them to lose their appetite, become irritable, and hide when we're not looking. They're difficult to treat and feed, and any object placed on their body (Elizabethan blanket, IV, etc.) upsets them greatly, and can later cause constipation.
There are still two days of treatment left, and we have to feed him because he's still stressed and not eating voluntarily. The good news is that he's urinating normally now, the bleeding has stopped, he's drinking water on his own, and he spends a lot of time urinating, which helps him stay hydrated and clear his urinary tract. I hope that by the end of the treatment, his stress levels will decrease, and he'll be able to eat spontaneously again and resume a normal life.

Hola amigos, feliz día para todos. Literalmente, los días de larga ausencia en mis escritos, son los días que llevo concentrada en mi viejito Lucky, sí, el integrante más antiguo de mi manada que ya tiene 12 añitos, y que después de 4 años tranquilo sin la presencia de la enfermedad que le fue diagnosticada hace 6 años, ésta reincide y nos agarra de sorpresa.
La cistitis es una inflamación de la vejiga urinaria provocada por una infección bacteriana y ésta asciende por la uretra, causando dolor y ardor al orinar, sensación de orinar sin efectos, orina turbia o con sangre, y molestias en la zona del vientre y la pelvis. Cistitis - Google
En el caso de los gatitos, palabras textuales del veterinario que lo atiende desde sus inicios, esta enfermedad inflamatoria les impide el paso de la orina por el conducto urinario al ser éste sumamente estrecho por naturaleza, causándoles mucho dolor, y sangrado al presionar durante el acto de orinar.
Como había publicado años atrás, Lucky sufre de este problema hace aproximadamente 6 años, y fue tratado clínicamente y en el hogar permitiéndole 4 años tranquilos, pero por alguna razón la enfermedad se manifestó días atrás y tuvimos que llevarlo a emergencias el fin de semana, donde lo tuvieron muchas horas en observación, le colocaron una vía en su patita para administrar suero y medicamentos.
El tratamiento colocado fue en base a antibióticos (intravenoso y oral), un antiespasmódico de la vía urinaria, hidratación con suero intravenoso, líquidos en forma oral (agua, caldos), alimentos húmedos, y aceite mineral posteriormente por estreñimiento. Se le retiraron las croquetas por completo, aun siendo un producto especial para gatitos con problemas renales (era preferible descartar toda posibilidad de la reincidencia).
De aquí en adelante su alimentación continúa siendo especial y preparada en la casa, y hay que monitorear su orina periódicamente. Lo delicado de la situación cuando nuestros gatitos se enferman al punto clínico, es que su carácter nervioso por naturaleza los conlleva a estresarse y eso les roba el apetito, los pone molestos, se esconden al descuido nuestro y cuesta tratarlos y alimentarlos, cualquier objeto que les sea colocado en su cuerpo los altera muchísimo (isabelino, vía intravenosa u otros), y posteriormente también los estriñe.
Aún faltan dos días de tratamiento y hay que darle los alimentos porque sigue estresado y sin comer voluntariamente. Lo bueno es que ya orina bien, el sangrado ya desapareció, él mismo bebe agua, y pasa mucho rato haciéndolo, cosa que le permite mantenerse hidratado, y limpiar el conducto urinario. Espero en Dios que al finalizar el tratamiento bajen pronto los niveles de estrés, y él vuelva a alimentarse espontáneamente, y seguir un curso de vida normal.
