Days are longer

The past two weeks have been gruelling to deal with because of my shift pattern. When I got the job, I was told that working hours will generally fall between 8am and 7pm, that was fine but I honestly didn't think it would be as hectic as it has been.

For what it's worth, the main issue is that I have to travel to another city every day and I don't need to tell anyone how tedious that can be. This is going to be our last week in training, so afterwards, we'll start working towards working from home.

At the time of writing, I already have a commuting train ticket that runs all the way up till the 15th of June, which is also my cutoff date for going to the office five times a week. I expect that in the next few days, we'll be weaned into home working and getting that in place.

Working from home would be absolutely amazing and I honestly think that it would also lead to a corresponding improvement in my output. I excell when I'm in a comfortable environment and it is not to say that the office isn't comfortable but it is still a bit of a hassle having to haul myself and my backpack to work every day.

Working from home basically means I can sleep in a bit longer and just roll out of bed into work. It also ensures that I don't get to work pre-tired from a long trip and all that is in between.

Anyway, in recent weeks, I've been doing the late shift, which basically starts at 10am and runs till 6:30pm. It obviously means you get a bit more sleep but at the same time, you actually can't because you know you have work.

So, basically, my life has just been one work day to another with nothing in between. Anyway, I think I'll have my life back when I start working from home.

Working from home is a great thing to be able to do - just make sure you are disciplined and work effectively. Breaks are good but not sitting on the couch for an hour watching TV instead of working lol.

What is this role now? I would just make sure you’re careful not to change jobs too quickly too often otherwise you’ll reach the end of your rope of candidate marketability. Turnover costs more than anything.

Oh it's the same insurance job I started in April. The job offered hybrid working hours.

I intend to be here for a while.
