Butterfly Party

Underside

I stumbled upon a large group of butterflies on a short afternoon hike yesterday. The hike was at Skylight Pond Trail in the Green Mountain National Forest near Ripton, Vermont. Trail info I have been exploring alot in the Breadloaf area. The Breadloaf Writers Conference is an annual retreat for writers in the Green Mountains hosted by Middlebury College. It is famous for being where Robert Frost spent his summers and taught for 42 years.

Butterfly Party

I did see some of the summer residents at Breadloaf but was more intereste in the butterflies. There were dozens of butterflies. And upon taking some time to look around, literally butterflies all around. Interesting the different colors on the bottom and top of the wings. The first picture above shows the bottom of the wings.

Top

Here is a view of the top of the wings.

Both

And here's my favorite shot showing both the top and bottom of the wings on butterflies side by side 🙂 kind of an inverse pattern

The butterfly was the White Admiral - Limenitis arthemis. More info here on iNaturalist.

Wide view

Finally here's a photo that better shows how many of these butterfiles were gathered around. I suspect they are not discussing poetry 😜

Beautiful pics with all these butterflies... Maybe discussion on where to find the best flowers 😀
Have a great Sunday

They did seem a bit confused on the flower location question... they were hanging out in a culvert going under the road lol I tried to hide that fact as best I could in the photos 😊

Wow I would keep an eye out for timelapses in that area next year to see if you can get a crysalis opening.

Thats a great idea. I did not take the time to figure out where all these butterflies were coming from...

Maybe they prefer a plant that is growing in that area.

I had that happen one year with a bunch of red admiral butterflies that gathered at the corner of my deck. They had just hatched and many were still pumping up their wings, or whatever you call it, so that they would be able to fly. Isn't it an incredible sight to see? Your photos are amazing. ♥️

It was incredible 🙂 I am continually delighted that you and I seem to lead parallel lives haha
