Hello photo lovers,
In Berlin I wanted to visit the Holocaust monument. This is a massive area witch contains 2711 concrete blocks. The original name is "Denkmal für die ermordeten Juden Europas" (Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe)
It was designed by American architect Peter Eisenman and according to him, the field with the wavy blocks evokes a sense of disorientation and isolation and is symbolic of the experiences of the Jewish population during the Nazi regime.
And I wanted to capture that isolation.
It was a very cold and wet day. It was snowing and raining the whole day but still there were a lot of people walking trough the monument. Sad to say but it is a very popular touristic attraction.
I wanted to capture the monument with just a single person in frame. Luckily some of those concrete blocks are very tall so people disappear behind them. Righting that down feel very symbolic. So many people that disappeared in WW2.
I tried following this woman a bit because here hat stood out beautifully in between those grey concrete blocks.
I am not really sure witch of the two pictures below here I like the most. I wanted to blocks to be lose from the background so that you didn't see buildings in frame and than just the one person in there. I really do like that the snow is part of this picture. I don't see that very often in pictures taken in this location.
And if I see the pictures of these two people, dressed in grey and black, I am very happy white the woman and here red hat.
There were also a couple of puddles down there. To bad I could't capture a person walking by these puddles. That would have been a nice addition to these two pictures.
I also came across this. Some one started writing it and I totally agree with this messages. I was thinking of finishing the texts but that would probably have ended bad for me. Many security and camera's in this place.
Later on I thought that I could have written down, never again for anybody. That's really what I believe! It's a shame that many people in this world still think differently about that.
I think this is my favorite picture. I just love the color blue.
