Today I came across more photos that have never been posted. There was an exhibition in June 2025, exhibiting photo entries from a photo competition organized by the World Federation of Hungarian Photographers in Budapest in 2023. I think I've seen a few selection from these exhibitions, but it's never too much as you at least see what people are entering the competition with and you also see what the jury appreciates and rewards. It's a great occasion to learn if you're serious about photography.
It seems like I posted a part of the photos, and never made time or space to post the rest.
Hajnal Pataki - I've Already Seen Crows On Stick
There was a category called Hungarian Sayings and as I can see, you had to find a photo for a saying, or if you have found a photo, you needed to match it with a saying. It seems like a really good game and I don't know how I would start, if I had the chance to participate. Find a photo first? Meaning go hunt for a photo? Or look though my folders and try to find one that can match a Hungarian saying?
Anyway, this saying is a bit difficult to understand for those who don't speak the language, so I have to explain it to you. "I've Already Seen Crows On Stick" (Láttam én már karón varjút), you tell this to people who are usually making empty promises. I know, the meaning can be lost in translation and it is lost here, but the photo is good.
Ernő Sólyom - Bird Talk
I don't think you need an explanation here. The photo is exceptional and not many of us can capture such a scene. I will never, I know for sure as I don't have the patience to watch birds, neither have I the equipment.
Marius Vaganyik - Lunchtime*
A similar photo with the same subject, just as extraordinary as the previous one. While looking at these photos, was wondering how many shots these photographers have taken, to get a few usable ones. these birds are moving their wings so fast you can barely see the movements.
Tibor Jakab - Alone
At first I said I'm not going to post this photo, but then I changed my mine. It breaks my heart to see there are people living in these conditions in the 21st century, but it is the sad reality. Putting aside my feelings, the photo is exceptional.
Mihály Moldován - The Praise Of The Ends
Churches for me always symbolize history and the past. So many have been demolished, erased from the surface of the earth, so preserving what we have is a top priority. This one, although not in the best shape, must be beautiful.
Gábor Bede - Sweet Dream
Imola Hitre - Red Dot For Home 2
This is a very interesting entry. The category was Aged between 21 - 28 and this photo got the gold medal. I must admit, it's a very good one. Don't ask me what Imola has used to get the final result, but the idea is great.
Dr. Sándor Patrus - Expulsion From The Paradise
The topic is not new, it's from the Bible. Giovanni di Paolo had a painting named "The Creation and the Expulsion from the Paradise", tempera and gold on wood. Obviously the painting is nothing like this photo, but that wasn't the idea anyway.
This photo was made with archaic methods and was rewarded with silver.
Tamás Bátky - Free
Award winning photo in "General" category. Was rewarded with gold. I love how the water is circling around her hand and the light between her body and her hand.
Borbála Bíró - Apparition
This photo got silver in the "15 - 21 years old" category. I've said this before and saying it again, how much I admire teenagers thinking out of the box and creating artistic photos like this. I said creating intentionally because this photo wasn't just captured. This scene had to be created.
Stepping into a gallery full of award winning photos is like walking in another dimension, on another planet or travel to a place where everything is at the highest level. When I leave I always have so many plans, ideas, about what I should photograph and how, but I guess if you are not fully focused, these are just plans and ideas and remain plans and ideas.
I keep telling myself that soon I'm going to spend more time taking artistic photos and focusing on black and white, but it seems like I have to postpone my plans.
