Award Winning Photos

in Photography Lovers4 days ago

Those of you who don't read my post may think I'm so full of myself that I label my photos award winning. I wish I were so good but I'm not and I'm not referring to my photos in the title, but the ones I photographed.

Award Winning Photos.jpg

This was an exhibition I visited in November 2023, almost two years to the day and there's a good bunch of photos I haven't posted yet, so today I'd like to show you what it takes to become an award winning photographer.

Judit Vántsa - Express Train To Bereck - First applicant award

Imagine participating at a competition for the first time and winning. If you look at the photo, you can see it is well deserved as well. Obviously you may have a different favorite, if you could see the other applicants, but we can't. I love this photo and it's amazing the photographer could capture the train too, to break the colors.

Barna Böjte-Beyer - Stations

May be a drone photo, or just taken from the top of a hill, I can't be sure, but it's really good. That serpentine looks really good from the spot the photo was taken and it is well framed. The building looks like a church and couldn't be at a better place.

20231124_122104a.jpg

Barna Böjte-Beyer - Transylvanian Helikon

Same photographer, different photo, most likely drone photo as the chance to capture such a scene is slim to none. I like how the photographer choose the angle.

20231124_122127a.jpg

Barna Böjte-Beyer - Where not even the hunter is going - Rákóczi - Bornemisza Castle

Same photographer, different castle and I want to go and live there for a week or two. Imagine the silence.

Writing down these thoughts makes me think of how many castles I photographed, or photographs of castles and posted about them. Now I should go back, check my posts and make a list with all the places I said I'd visit and try to visit them. What an adventure it would be.

20231124_122235a.jpg

Barna Böjte-Beyer - Székelycsóka

These church photos may seem a bit strange, especially this type, that features small churches and not as pompous as the ones in big cities, but at some point these can have historical value. If something happens to the church (and so many times it does), these photos are testimony of the past. So I look at them with different eyes and also value history and cultural heritage in them.

Elemér Mezei - Inside the church

Even though it doesn't look like, this church is more valuable than you think. It looks kind of bad, or in not a good condition, but I'll explain. Transylvania has a long history and not at all peaceful. Iver the centuries, there were many attacks, religion based as well, so places got taken over by different nations/people along with churches. This is why so many churches got repurposed, meaning these beautiful frescos had been covered, painted over and only discovered decades, centuries later. Restoration work can always help, but it's not going to be like a new one, so keep this in mind when judging the place.

Erikah Simon - Gateway detail from Mera - 2nd place "Our Cultural Heritage"

I love this and I hope you do too. How can you not love it? Wood carving is something I admire and when it comes to painted wood, I love it even more. I'd love to know how or better yet, where this photo was taken, to see the sharp contrast between old and new, with my own eyes. It's a very good photo.

20231124_122352a.jpg

László Kovács-Dócz - Organ

I know this concert hall very well, it's a beautiful one, but taking such a photo requires some skills and opportunity. You need access to the hall, when it's empty and you need to find the perfect spot. I love this photo.

20231124_122606a.jpg

Béci Vajda - Blue flags

Another fantastic photo, which has a lot to do with luck and opportunity. Photographing insects is not my style, but this is more than that. This is a composition created by nature and the photographer took the occasion to make it eternal.

*István Magdó - Let's dream big - 2nd place "Macro Photo"

As I said, insect photos are not my thing, but this is a fantastic one. I'm not going to say more about it, I'll let you tell me what you see here. This is the riddle of the day :)

Beautiful photos of some gorgeous photography, @erikah! My favorite is the "inside the church" one, but I have to admit - as much as spiders make me shudder, that last one is pretty cool. I haven't had my camera out much in the past year, but this post is making me think that maybe I should start shaking the rust off (of my photo taking, not the camera itself 😜😄).

Oh, how nice to see you here lovely lady! I hope you get your camera out and make time to take some shots and post about them too. It's been ages since you've been active. It's time to come back, don't you think?😉😜🤗

OMG!... What a shot!

This photo reminded me that I haven't taken any macro and/or insects close-ups shots in a while!... I think I'll do some soon!...

Thanks for sharing, excellent report as always, @erikah friend!

🔟🔟🔟!

Yes, that shot is like created at the technical design table. Look at that precision. It's amazing.

Do it! I'd love to see those lovely macro shots 😉

Have a lovely weekend my friend!

My favorite here is Barna Böjte-Beyer - Stations, the serpentine is so particular, also the placing upper a hill (or mountain?) of the church, alone, with the forest behind, it's just lovely

Second pick Erikah Simon - Gateway detail from Mera: I really like the contrast of colored and black and white on the 2 sides, the shapes of the subjects, it looks 3 dimensional

László Kovács-Dócz - Organ, unfortunately I don't like this kind of "round" photo it's just too... Round! it reminds me 3d stuff where you need visors aswell

István Magdó - Let's dream big, it could be the photographer was trying to photograph the background spider and then the front one came on the lens or something, or the background one stepped by a water bottle and got bigger

You picked some really good ones. The Organ that you don't like ... I like it because I've seen the original several times and this is something different, but it's not my genre either.

István Magdó - Let's dream big - the funny thing here is, what are the chances to capture two spiders on the same glass surface? As you can see, these are not on the same web.

Yep it's 2 different ones, I checked when watching it, that's why it's so nice

Yes and rare too. It's not like you can pick two spiders up and place them on a glass :)

By the way I posted some paints, let me know if you like them 😄

I'll have a look tomorrow, thanks for letting me know. Would have missed it 😬

I guessed so 😄 but I also know it's stuff you like!

I had a quick look and it really is, but i want to read it.

You know, I have a phobia of spiders... so I look at it quickly and I see two, but maybe it looks like the spider sees its shadow much bigger and the other way round...

I thought about visiting castles and I have a huge smile on my face!!!! To live there for a few days!

And I would like to be inside that church with those ancient paintings and see them up close, every detail, every story. I love that picture!😍

You know, I have a phobia of spiders

😆 We're soooo different. I don't have a phobia, but don't like them either, so trying to avoid them as much as possible. These two on the photo are not going to harm you though 😜

I've been getting over it but it's better not to be near any of them hahaha better far away.... like that just like that!🤣

Your thought about going back through your old posts to see the places you said you wanted to visit… same ! Sometimes I look at my travel drafts and realize I made a whole bucket list without noticing .

Yup, it could be a nice list.

Unique photos, with a unique content. I liked the way...

There is a lot to learn from them.

I see I'm late to the party; however, Judit Vántsa's Express Train To Bereck is my all time favourite of this collection of yours. I could stare at it for long minutes and not be weary; the train, the field, the colours, I dare say it's perfection.

Do tell the answer to the riddle. I'm bad at them, but I'm also a cat that curiousity could murder.

Kudos!

You're not late for the party, you can always comment, no matter how old the post is.

What you see there are two spiders, one small, the other is bigger, one on one side of the glass, while the other on the opisite side.
