Happy start to the week, hoping these 7 days bring everyone good health, happiness, and blessings. Today I'm back for another MUSICAL MONDAY, the wonderful musical initiative created by @eugelys, where we can share our musical memories and experiences.
Hoy oía la radio, y para mi sorpresa en la estación colocaron una canción de SERENATA GUAYANESA, uno de los mejores grupos de música venezolana, que con su constante trabajo musical, hizo que la música folklórica de mi país, trascendiera fronteras, además de formar parte también del soundtrack de la vida de muchos venezolanos, (incluida yo), aunque quizás ahora esas canciones han quedado en el olvido, y quizás las nuevas generaciones no conozcan esta preciosa música.
Today I was listening to the radio, and to my surprise the station played a song by SERENATA GUAYANESA, one of the best Venezuelan music groups, who with their constant musical work, made the folk music of my country transcend borders, in addition to also being part of the soundtrack of the lives of many Venezuelans, (including me), although perhaps now those songs have been forgotten, and perhaps the new generations do not know this beautiful music.
Como he dicho en otros posts, tuve la gran bendición de asistir a muchos conciertos, retretas y presentaciones en vivo de diversos músicos, y entre estos estuvo SERENATA GUAYANESA quienes sonaban estupendamente en vivo, y transmitían una vibra muy bonita en sus conciertos. Recuerdo que su música fue parte de mi infancia y de la infancia de mis hermanos. Me causa nostalgia y risa a la vez, que mi hermana menor, cuando estaba muy pequeña, les decía SERENATA MAYONESA, luego aprendió a decir GUAYANESA. Y como las canciones de este grupo fueron parte de mi infancia, hoy les compartiré tres bonitas canciones infantiles escritas, compuestas e interpretadas por este grupo. Hay muchas más, pero por hoy sólo les traje tres, las cuales se encuentran en el disco “Cantemos con los niños”; del año 1982. Y si bien, yo ya para esta época era una preadolescente, que oía rock y pop de manera constante, también oía música folklórica, y por supuesto, música infantil. Dicho esto, vamos a ver las canciones de mi MUSICAL MONDAY.
As I've mentioned in other posts, I've had the great blessing of attending many concerts, retreats, and live performances by various musicians, including SERENATA GUAYANESA, who sounded amazing live and conveyed a beautiful vibe in their concerts. I remember that their music was part of my childhood and that of my siblings. It makes me nostalgic and laugh at the same time that my younger sister, when she was very little, used to call them SERENATA MAYONESA, and then she learned to say GUAYANESA. And since this group's songs were part of my childhood, today I'll share with you three beautiful children's songs written, composed, and performed by this group. There are many more, but for today I've only brought you three, which are found on the album “Let’s Sing with the Children” from 1982. And although I was already a pre-teen at this time, who listened to rock and pop constantly, I also listened to folk music, and of course, children's music. That said, let's look at the songs from my MUSICAL MONDAY.
Mis canciones para este Musical Monday / My songs for this Musical Monday
My first song for this MUSICAL MONDAY is the beautiful “A LA UNA”, and it's one of the most famous melodies of SERENATA GUAYANESA. This song wasn't written by them, but it was set to music by them. The lyrics are a poem written by the Venezuelan poet Aquiles Nazoa. The lyrics are beautiful, with a unique sweetness, and the music, along with the wonderful interplay of voices, make this a musical gem. Here I share the video of a live performance.
I continue with the unique, beautiful, and witty “LA PULGA Y EL PIOJO”, which wasn't written by SERENATA GUAYANESA either, but they did arrange the music. This is a Venezuelan folk song that tells the story of a flea and a louse's wedding, and who the godparents and guests would be, and what each of them would bring. It's a song with a cruel ending, because the godmother is the cat and the godfather the mouse, and it turns out the godmother eats the godfather. It's a great song; here's the audio.
Y para finalizar este MUSICAL MONDAY de canciones infantiles venezolanas, les traje la preciosa “ESTE NIÑO DON SIMÓN”, una canción que tampoco fue escrita por SERENATA GUAYANESA, pero sí musicalizada por ellos. Es un poema del poeta, escritor y periodista, también venezolano, MANUEL FELIPE RUGELES. Este poema – canción habla de la infancia del Libertador, Simón Bolívar, en donde a través de un hermoso ejercicio imaginativo, él describe cómo fue la niñez de nuestro Libertador, y formó parte de su libro de poesías CANTA PIRULERO (1950). Esta canción también es una joya, en toda la extensión de la palabra. Aquí les comparto el audio, espero que lo disfruten.
And to end this MUSICAL MONDAY of Venezuelan children's songs, I brought you the beautiful “ESTE NIÑO DON SIMÓN”, a song that was not written by SERENATA GUAYANESA, but set to music by them. It is a poem by the poet, writer and journalist, also Venezuelan, MANUEL FELIPE RUGELES. This poem-song talks about the childhood of the Liberator, Simón Bolívar, where through a beautiful imaginative exercise, he describes what the childhood of our Liberator was like, and was part of his poetry book CANTA PIRULERO (1950). This song is also a gem, in every sense of the word. Here I share the audio with you, I hope you enjoy it.
