In my traditional village, there is a yearly festival that is only held every year based on the Balinese calendar. The village is the typical agricultural village, where most of the villagers are farmers, and the celebration is to worship Dewi Sri the Goddess of fertility for the good harvest that we get for the whole year. It is kind of a gratitude for what we have been blessed by nature and also the religion that we believe. But despite the celebration being to worship Dewi Sri, the celebration is held in the Cemetery Temple, because we believe that Dewi Dhurga that we worship in the cemetery is also on of her personification.
What makes the celebration which we call Ngusaba Dimel unique is that the celebration only lasts for one day, and most of us worship at the temple almost five times that day, or mostly 3 times. From dawn, until early night which finished around 8 pm or 9 pm. The last one for the closing we called Sokan in which the offering was put in a big bamboo basket, and then brought usually by two people using a long bamboo stick and then held on the shoulder.
The fun was when the people returned from the temple from their homes, usually by running because it used to be so dark back then when there was no electricity, so the people who brought the offering would run so that they will reach their homes faster. This has changed a little bit, but the spirit is still the same, although I believe in the future it will change completely.
Here is the first group that arrived near my house where I took the photo. You can see that there are four of them, it is because they take turn so that they will not be exhausted before reaching home.
This one even still could give me the pose after the trip. :)
These ones are running.
The people who bring the offering and the spectators on the street.
Another big group, just like me, I think they just want to take it easy because it is not as dark it used to be, and also maybe they want to enjoy the trip. haha
Here come the changes, where they uses the pickup car to bring back the offerings. but still they are having fun.
Another group that came a little bit later.
This one is a big basket, and there are so mani of them who join to bring the offering. Usually, they are from the same big family. If only there is no car on the left side, i think this photo will look a little bit better.
A blurry one.
These guys are left behind, catching a little bit of breath.
Here comes another group.
This was the last shot that day, and I was happy that I got the illumination from my cousin's camera flash.
And below are some of the random shots that I took that day.
the out-of-focus car light.
the dog that is afraid of the oncoming cars.
