Three Tune Tuesday ・The Morricone Duel

in Discovery-it3 months ago

Greetings and salutations Hivers. Today let's go into another Three Tune Tuesday post.

As always, thanks to @ablaze for making this series. Lots of people participate in it! Follow the tags to find a ton of good music recommendation.

This morning, I found myself listening to "The Morricone Duel". This was a concert put on by The Danish National Symphony Orchestra where they played a selection of Western movie themes and Gangster movie themes. An odd combination perhaps, but the music does go together in a strange way.

I thought I'd share three picks from this concert with you. It's hard to pick just three, because the entire concert is amazing, but I thought I'd try!

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

An amazing playing of two great pieces. They are pretty much spot on, exactly as we all know them, but played just about as well as they have ever been. The Danish National Symphony Orchestra is a hell of a band, and they really show their skill here.

Once Upon a Time in America

It's hard to skip "The Godfather" as the gangster movie music of choice, but that is even more iconic than my previous pick here, so I'm going with this less known one. These are both underrated songs in a great movie, and again played really well.

Once Upon a Time in the West

Back to the Western. Again, not too much interpretation here—it is played pretty much exactly as you remember from the film. But it is played better than you have ever heard it before. Every note is spot on. This is an amazing performance.

If you liked those, you can search out more from the concert on youtube, but they have made a few unavailable, no doubt to try to get people to buy the album. It worked for me at least—I bought it and think it is very much worth the money. If you'd like to go that route, search "The Danish National Symphony Orchestra The Morricone Duel" on Amazon. They have it on CD, DVD, or just MP3s. A good purchase!

Definitely some classic songs there! My wife and I need to get out to the symphony next time they are playing. It's been a while since we have been. I saw Yo Yo Ma was coming to a local venue a bit ago, but I didn't get us tickets. I'm kind of kicking myself over that now.

Oh man, too bad you missed that one. I would love to see him play. Oh well—hope you get another good chance for some classical music.

Thanks! That venue we have in town actually draws in some pretty big names for the town being so small. It's one of the benefits of having a global corporation headquartered there I guess.

I have to vote this. One of my favorite movies and tune

Glad to hear you have good taste in movies 😃

Spaghetti western is something I enjoy. The dollar trilogy is definitely iconic, perhaps the best spaghetti western of all time :)

Totally agreed!
