Just outside of Detroit, Michigan in a little town called Clarkston is one of the greatest venues in the state for watching live music. Once called Pine Knob, then DTE Music Theater, and now Pine Knob again, I can't tell you the number of shows I have seen at this place.
The photo above is one of the most recent ones which included Ace Frehley from KISS fame, as well as Alice Cooper. I've seen everyone from Nine Inch Nails to Neil Diamond at Pine Knob and no matter who you see, it's always a memorable show.
Pine Knob is your classic amphitheater with stadium seating in the lower section and lawn seating in the upper section. @mrsbozz and I usually opt for lawn seating because it is cheaper and you still get a decent view of the stage. Plus, the acoustics are always on point.
They hold shows rain or shine at Pine Knob and if really want a show, make sure you sit high on the hill during those rain shows. There's nothing funnier than watching a lady in high heels try to walk up a muddy slope. We have seen several outfits ruined in the process.
This post isn't really about Pine Knob though. The reason I mention it is because I saw each of the artists I am going to cover in this #threetunetuesday post (sponsored by @ablaze) at Pine Knob. In fact, when you see the talent I am going to share, you will likely be shocked to find I saw them all together in one night!
It was August 7th, 2003 when Ringo Starr and his All Starr Band came rolling into DTE (Detroit Edison) Energy Music Theater. Four years before the smartphone was a thing, I don't have any photos to share with you. If you aren't familiar with Ringo, I'm so sorry for you.
Really though, I know I have readers from all over the place. Ringo Starr was the drummer for a little band you may have heard of called The Beatles. Long after the Beatles split up, he started touring along with his All Starr Band. The band consisted of famous people from different generations that were/are all stars in their own right.
Hence, the title of this post and my theme for this weeks #threetunetuesday.
Besides being in The Beatles, Ringo had a couple bigger hits like "It Don't Come Easy", "Photograph", and "You're Sixteen". One of my favorite songs of his though, is a cover and it's called "The No No Song". Which is what I shared above. It's just a fun song about vices and how bad they can be for you.
I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
Ringo was always kind of the joker of The Beatles, so this song fits him really well.
As I said, Ringo Starr wasn't the only person in attendance that night, he also had with him his 8th All Starr Band. I got the chance to see him with this 8th band and his 9th band and honestly, the 8th band was so stacked with talent, it is hard to compare the two.
"Missing You" is a song by John Waite from Bad English fame. It's actually one of my top 25 favorite songs of all time I think. I enjoy John's original version better than the Tina Turner cover, but I am not bagging on Queen Tina at all. Her version is great, I just prefer Waite's.
John Waite has such a crystal clear voice, I think that's part of the reason I like him so much. It's also very emotive and you can really feel the pain in it when he sings this song. He also sang his song "When I see you smile" in the set which is a big Bad English hit.

As much as I was excited to see John Waite in the lineup, I think Colin Hay put me over the top. As you can see from the set list above, Colin played both "Overkill" and "Down Under"in the set. I actually prefer his acoustic stuff to some of the more over produced stuff. Overkill is just such an amazing song. If you get a chance, you should dig into Colin's solo stuff.
"I don't think I'll ever get over you" is an amazing song by him that you have probably never heard unless you have taken a deep dive into Colin. It's probably my favorite song of his if not a close second to Overkill.

If you were scanning through the list of members, you might have noticed in his 8th band, I also got to see a guy by the name of Paul Carrack. While you might not recognize the name, you should surely be familiar with some of the bands that he was in... Ace, Squeeze, Mike + The Mechanics, Roxy Music, Madness, need I go on...
While he didn't sing this song at the show, "Eyes of Blue" is one of my favorite Paul Carrack songs, and I felt I should include it here.
If you ever get the chance to see Ringo and his All Starr Band in concert, I highly encourage it. I'm sure even twenty years later he is still making it fun and bringing you some fantastic talent.
