A new day brings new discovery

I was sitting in my office a week or so ago when I just happened to look out the window and saw the scene above. It was quite amazing and it made me start to wonder how many beautiful views like this I miss because I don't take the time to stop and look out the window.

I'm actually one of the lucky few where I work to have a big window with a view like this. As you can see from the photo, the people across the sidewalk from me simply look back at my window. The district superintendent whose office is across from mine can either look at my hot mess of an office all day, or if he looks out the window to the left, he gets to see the side of the gymnasium.

I think I got the better deal!

If I'm being honest, this actually isn't a sunrise photo. It's a sunset photo. It's pretty hard to tell though right? I was staying late for a school board meeting and a storm happened to be moving into the area. It made for some pretty amazing clouds and colors.

I think music is the same way a lot of times. We get really familiar with one view and if we don't take the time to stop and look around, we might miss something really great that is right in front of us. That's part of the reason I love Spotify and the algorithm it uses to try and find other songs you might like.

There's another way I like to find new music as well, and one of the artists I discovered via that method is the focus on my #threetunetuesday this week sponsored by @ablaze.

I hope you enjoy!

Given the large number of concerts that @mrsbozz and I have attended over the years, I get quite a few emails from different promoters and venues about artists that are coming to either their location or the general area. Given the fact that we have went to concerts in both Michigan and Ohio, I tend to get updates from both areas.

These emails always put the big name headliners first, but if you scroll down a bit, you can usually find some of the lesser known artists that are playing at some of the smaller venues in the area. Things like old theaters and lower capacity stadiums. I can't tell you the number of "new" (to me) artists I have discovered by scrolling down and looking at who is touring.

Father John Misty is one of those such artists.

I feel like "I guess time just makes fools of us all" is a really good introduction to his music. He has this kind of mellow vibe that is just really interesting to me. The use of reverb on his vocals also gives him a good sound. It kind of reminds me of a more alternative version of Don McLean at times.

Father John Misty is a stage name attributed to Joshua Michael Tillman who was born in 1981 in Maryland. According to Wikipedia, he started his career in Seattle Washington and his music is well known for satirical lyrics and his eccentric performance style.

Although his main catalog of work is as a solo artist, he has toured with a fair number of bands throughout the years. Many of which I have never heard of, but I plan on digging into some of them on Spotify when I get a chance.

Likewise, I'm interested in looking into some of the studio albums he recorded as J Tillman before he started performing as Father John Misty. "Real Love Baby" is a song I wanted to share because it shows a more upbeat side of the artist. I just wanted you to know that not all the songs have the moody and depressing vibe.

However, many of them still do, and "Hollywood Forever Cemetery Sings" is one of them. It was released back in 2012 and the video features a potentially familiar actress to you named Aubrey Plaza. This was about six years into her career and the video is pretty interesting to say the least.

I was reading the comments under the video on YouTube and it was pretty interesting to see how many people were into Father John Misty's music even back then and what an influence it had on their lives. It's funny because it kind of makes me feel like I missed out that I am just discovering him now.

Sort of like all the sunrises or sunsets I miss because I don't take the time to look out my window right?

If you get those emails like I get from attending concerts, I encourage you to scroll down a little further and check out some of the lesser known artists that are coming to your area. You just don't know what you might be missing!

Those little things that we sometimes let pass us by because we are inside the bubble of routine, look out the window, so healthy and what a privileged person you are. I'm sure you'll enjoy it much more now.

Lucky you for your Spotify algorithm, I always get the same thing, not that it bothers me, I think that's why it happens hahaha but it is so true that through Hive I have also discovered new music. Great selection you leave here, let's listen to them!

There are some occasions that I listen to the same thing and then after that is finished it plays me the same songs over and over. Then by chance something new will pop up and my ears perk up a little and I get a little more excited than usual!

I’ve discovered so many new artists just by exploring random playlists or scrolling through recommendations. It’s so easy to stick with what you know, but there’s so much more to discover if you take the time to look.

For sure! I need to dig into some of the publicly shared playlists myself on Spotify. There are likely some people with really good taste out there!

I really like his style, it's hard to categorize it, but it has a great sound. That first one is interesting with a message I personally understand well, what was once important in the rearview really wasn't... The third one was a cool song, not because of Aubrey, but the subject matter. Have you ever been to Hollywood Forever? It's just an expensive cemetery when it comes right down to it. I'm going to put him on my list to explore this week, I'm glad you found him. I had never heard of him before today! Have some !DUO

You just got DUO from @thebighigg.
They have 1/1 DUO calls left.

I'm glad you enjoyed him. I have only ever been to California once. It was for work and we flew into San Francisco and then drove out to I think Tracy for the job, then right back. Much too quick!

Yeah that's a great view! For me it's driving to work. I see the sun come up and just kind of pure out the side window at it and say to myself wow that's beautiful. I also think when I'm retired maybe I'll drive around in the morning early and catch some of the sunrises Sit there and enjoy them. Wonder if that'll actually happen? Lol

I hope you are able to do that. I know what you mean about driving to work in the morning. I head north and east with lake Huron just out of view so you get to see some amazing sunrises.

I'm Fairly certain that I can keep myself decently occupied after retirement. We'll see. Still have lots of time, hopefully, to decide what my poster retirement days will look like.

I'm kind of in the same boat. I think I would be able to find stuff to do, but I don't want to be just wasting my days away. I'm closer than I would like to admit honestly.

That is one thing I try to do as often as I can and catch nature out of the window!
Never heard of either J Tillman or Father Misty and yes I prefer the more upbeat one!

The trees outside my window get quite beautiful when the blooms are on them, but man do they smell!
