Feliz fin de semana apreciada comunidad de LifeStyle! El trabajo en la universidad y el laboratorio me ha alejado de escribir pero ya desde hacía un par de meses atrás estaba planeando preparar mi post conmemorando el 22 de mayo, es decir el Bitcoin Pizza Day! Por supuesto, todos aquellos que creemos en la criptografía como una alternativa al cada vez más arcaico sistema monetario fíat vemos en este día un momento trascendental, el día en que se realizó la primera transacción de la historia al comprar 2 pizzas por 10000 Bitcoins. En aquel momento esa cantidad equivalía a poco más de 40$ por lo que en retrospectiva aquellas 2 pizzas de Papa Jhons actualmente serían las más caras de la historia, pero era el paso necesario para demostrar que Bitcoin era la alternativa que estábamos buscando.
En este contexto el 22 de mayo es un día de celebración para la comunidad crypto y en mi caso lo he estado celebrando desde el año pasado, no sin mucho esfuerzo ya que vivo en el sur global donde el martillo de esta especie de 3era guerra mundial híbrida esta golpeando con más fuerza. Y así, este 22 de mayo fue igualmente una proeza poder celebrar el bitcoin pizza day, así que déjame contarte como fue mi día desde que me levante temprano hasta el momento en que pude finalmente celebrar este maravilloso día.

My work at the university and the lab has kept me away from writing, but a couple of months ago I was planning to prepare my post commemorating May 22nd, Bitcoin Pizza Day! Of course, all of us who believe in cryptography as an alternative to the increasingly archaic fiat monetary system see this day as a momentous occasion, the day the first transaction in history was made, when two pizzas were purchased for 10,000 Bitcoins. At the time, that amount was equivalent to just over $40, so in retrospect, those two Papa John's pizzas would now be the most expensive in history, but it was the necessary step to prove that Bitcoin was the alternative we were looking for.
In this context, May 22nd is a day of celebration for the crypto community, and in my case, I've been celebrating it since last year, not without much effort since I live in the global south where the hammer of this kind of hybrid World War III is hitting hardest. And so, this May 22nd was equally a feat to be able to celebrate Bitcoin Pizza Day. Me levante bastante temprano ya que no solo tenía que dar una clase teórica en la universidad sino que también debía entrenar a una futura profesora en nuestra unidad docente asi que primero llené el tanque de gasolina e inmediatamente puse marcha a la universidad.

Como ya he escrito en muchos otros post que les he compartido soy un científico consumado y por tanto amo el trabajo de laboratorio. Fue gratificante ver que el experimento dio un resultado bastante satisfactorio, pero no tenía tiempo para estar celebrando, tenía amigos que están esperando a que volviera a casa y organizar la compra de la Pizza. Este simple proceso de volver a casa que normalmente me toma 30 minutos, se convirtió en un infierno! Pues este domingo tenemos elecciones en Venezuela así que todas las calles estaban congestionadas porque era el cierre de campaña electoral, entonces mi viaje de regreso se tomo 2 horas!
It was gratifying to see that the experiment yielded a fairly satisfactory result, but I didn't have time to celebrate; I had friends waiting for me to come home and organize the pizza shopping. This simple process of getting home, which normally takes me 30 minutes, turned into hell! This Sunday we have elections in Venezuela, so all the streets were congested because it was the closing day of the election campaign, so my return trip took two hours!

A este punto estaba empezando a perder la esperanza de poder celebrar este día, pensé que si para mí fue una odisea poder volver a casa con calles cerradas, y muchos negocios cerrados también por lo que pensé que mis amigos que estaban en otras partes de Caracas se les haría imposible venir al centro de Caracas que es donde vivo. Pero entonces recibí esta imagen de mis amigos que ya estaban en la pizzería y que les dijera que tipo de pizza íbamos a comprar. Después de pensarlo un momento la decisión estaba hecha compraríamos la más cara y que tuviera todos los ingredientes.
At this point, I was starting to lose hope of being able to celebrate this day. I thought it would be an odyssey for me to get home, with streets closed, and many businesses closed as well. I thought it would be impossible for my friends who were in other parts of Caracas to come to downtown Caracas, where I live. But then I received this image from my friends who were already at the pizzeria, asking me to tell them what kind of pizza we were going to get. After thinking about it for a moment, the decision was made: we would buy the most expensive one that had all the ingredients.
La alegría me volvió al cuerpo! Después de hora y media llegaron mis mis compas con la deseada pizza y como pueden ver venia con full ingredientes, también trajeron unos panecillos con crema y chocolate para después de comernos la pizza a manera de postre. Uno de los elementos que puse fue esa botella de ron Santa Teresa para tomarnos un trago y celebrar este día.
Joy returned to me! After an hour and a half, my friends arrived with the coveted pizza, and as you can see, it came with plenty of toppings. They also brought some rolls with cream and chocolate for dessert after the pizza. One of the items I brought was a bottle of Santa Teresa rum for us to have a drink and celebrate the day.

Despejamos como pudimos la mesa, la laptop, los informas y los exámenes siempre entán en la mesa, forma parte del oficio de ser profesor e investigador. Repartimos las pizzas y brindamos por este momentos y por los que vienen. Tenía varios meses que no me encontraba con mis colegas, nos pusimos al día, nos quejamos de nuestros horribles trabajos pagados con dinero fíat pero también hablamos de Hive como la salida que estábamos buscando. Verán amigos, el mayor problema que actualmente nos aqueja es la imposibilidad de ahorrar, es imposible porque hacerlo es literalmente lanzarlo a una fogata pues la inflación en Venezuela es extrema y es muy vulnerable a la actual turbulencia política que en los últimos 10 años se ha extremado por esta especie de ataque de "bosque oscuro" proveniente del norte global y su poder financiero que ahora parece extender esa agresión a todo el sur global.
We cleared the table as best we could; the laptop, reports, and exams are always on the table; it's part of being a professor and researcher. We shared the pizzas and toasted to this moment and to those to come. I hadn't seen my colleagues for several months. We caught up, complained about our horrible jobs paid with fiat currency, but also talked about Hive as the escape we'd been looking for. You see, friends, the biggest problem we face today is the inability to save. It's impossible because doing so is literally throwing it into a fire, as inflation in Venezuela is extreme, and it is very vulnerable to the current political turbulence that has worsened over the last 10 years due to this kind of "dark forest" attack from the global north and its financial power, which now seems to be extending this aggression to the entire global south.
