RE: Proposal Updates! Open Mithril Development Framework

in Synergy Builders8 days ago

Hi,
So here are some reminders of my comments on the other issues, plus some more:

  1. I am not sure what 'support staff skills' means. I thought originally you were intending to use that money to pay other people to do support tasks, but the use of the word 'skills' seems to imply some sort of training for yourselves, is that correct? I think you need to explain why you are asking for $11,000 here.
  2. You talk about operating a for-profit organisation and possibly taking some of the funds and investing them into a company. I don't recall you defining what exactly Hive users will get for free, what they will pay for and how much they will pay. This will be a sticking point for many people as they might see that they are paying twice.
  3. As I mentioned previously, I am not really clear on the need for an invoicing module when we already have several for free. I think you need to really specify why yours is needed and beneficial.
  4. I personally don't vote for the existing badge system run by arcange, because I think the money can be much better used to develop more powerful tools - so I am not inspired by another badging system.

So for me personally, sitting like a guy on 'shark tank' listening to an elevator pitch - the only parts that interest me are that you are wanting to write open source (Somehow for profit) code that benefits Hive and that you are upgrading Beem. I totally agree that Hive's code frameworks need updating (and documenting well), but it seems like you want to direct resources to many things other than Beem, so I have no idea how much of your requested funds would actually go to Beem or whether it would be good value.

For what it's worth, I personally see the following as the most pressing tasks for community development on Hive:

  1. Improving Ecency's codebase for use in breakaway communities.
  2. Improving the open source libraries for Hive to attract outside developers and support existing ones.
  3. Creating/Writing a large amount of up to date documentation and promotional material for existing and new developers to sell them on Hive and more importantly to educate them on how to develop on Hive.
Sort:
  1. This is the budget to pay the other people. My main people are listed in the prop, but I also have others for very specific skill sets, like @kit.andres for docker.
  2. We have already deployed 8 free tools, and will continue to do so thecrazygm.com/hivetools/. Additionally ALL of our premium tools are open source and going open source. In our Champion Modules post we also explained how only the server deploy costs micropayment, but our interface script builders will allow people to download prebuilt code to deploy themselves. Doesn't HIVE also get BEEM fixed?
  3. We don't have a single one yet on HIVE, but I did an interview with blocktrades today where we break down this confusion of yours (and many others! me too before I read the manual) for 45 minutes. Happy to share the unlisted unedited version with you privately.
  4. Auto-Badger integrates the @peak.open badge system we already have. I broke down extensively clearly how a lack of available automation is costing our community project builders precious time logging in and clicking buttons.

For What its Worth

  1. I would also vote for a proposal like that! I already support Ecency Prop, if there is another, link me!
  2. Literally this proposal.
  3. Literally in this proposal.

You are a champion of feedback! Not sure you are reading my posts tho! Big hugs.

  1. OK.
  2. OK, so I think the degree to which your proposal is funded is to some extent the degree to which people value the services you are developing as a result of the funding.
  3. As I am currently focused on my health here, I don't have much time to spare, unfortunately - it's quite an urgent situation.
  4. I never hear anyone I know talking about badges at all, so it's not an area I am familiar with. I thin this area is genuinely seen as very low priority in the context of the larger challenges.

FWIW

  1. Yes, the Ecency proposal is meant to cover it. I have suggested SPK apply for it too several times, but they are funding with their own money and don't want to hit the DHF twice AFAIK.
  2. OK, though I may have missed the extent to which Beem/Nectar will be developed/expanded. I just checked the kanban page and see that the legacy issues are being addressed - though I don't see much in the way of expansion of scope.
  3. The documentation is a huge project/requirement in my mind. Previous documentation for Hive has been too limited, often outdated quickly and also sometimes just incomplete throughout. If I compare it to docs from other similar open source projects, they are a world apart. Not only do the docs need to be technically accurate and written by experienced coders and technical authors, but they also should ideally have some degree of modern web design applied. This is something I almost never see on Hive in any context. So it would be great to see examples of relevant work of whoever is tasked with this aspect. I haven't seen that yet.

FYI, I come from a background of professional development and also digital marketing. I've put quite a bit of time into trying to get the standards raised on Hive for the UX but typically I find that I am either ignored or the projects just don't have the budget to have work completed to full market norms. I appreciate that we are competing with projects who sometimes have very large budgets - but many also do not, so I aim to do what I can to try to nudge projects in that direction.

When you are healthy , above all, we should schedule a time for a podcast about Strategizer and the whole experience, plus lessons learned.

  1. 2.There has been no funding! 🤪😅

I will read more soon, maybe reply, but all is going in the notebook!

You are a treasure!

This tool is broken: https://thecrazygm.com/hivetools/utility/backlinks?username=rishi556 It doesn't go all the way back. Unless it's meant to start when Hive starts?

We haven't scraped to steem yet!

Either someone nominates it or we wait until we upgrade to a HAFspl api call, most likely. Eventually will happen, but can only do so many things at once.

Speaking of, was going to start looking into that other thing, seemed "easy".
