Did you know that witness servers do some important stuff? mostly 2 different things - making and signing blocks, and "waiting" - being ready to do so!
If a witness has a "node", this is about different levels and depth of access to history data. But the making and the signing of blocks, and the being ready to do so part - this has not much to do with "node" storage.
We have now taken another step up the ladder. Into the "top 100". This is indicated by our second ranking number, the active rank. Our real rank is 102, and this is very close now to top 100 real.
Top 100 witnesses are expected to be around and prepared to make a block at any time, and even are routinely added to "the schedule" for signing the blocks at the big boy's table. As I write, fellow back up witness @innerhive is in there now, signing blocks. Good luck friend!
Well, that is an adventure. But let me tell you an even better one.
Because of a "simple" mistake by me, the PM, we had to reinit our server. We are preparing to be more than a "litenode", and I wanted more apis, now!
One time unexpectedly, I found something - we had disabled!
That's right - rocksDB "just didn't fit". And you never, never, never - never miss a block.
Sure, stuff happens in life. But, this is the job. If we signal we are ready - its because we are ready. From day 1 - we are learning, but we are not noobs.
Top 100 is a big step. And I can't wait to learn more, along the way - and with all of you. Back-end stuff like this "makes sense" to me, but only if I dig in, chew it up and ask lots of noob questions to my team members who are smarter than me.
