Hello everyone welcome to my blog. It's a brand new day, a Thursday and that means we are taking it back to memories. I am @coderaikiri and I will be participating in this week's throwback Thursday initiative so stay with me as I walk you all down memory lane.... Thank you
In Nigeria, the Yoruba tribe is known for their deep love of festivities, parties, ceremonies and celebrations in whatever form it comes. They celebrate life, cultural events historical moments and above all the end of a well lived life. On the 15th of November 2025 I accidentally attended a burial ceremony at Igbokoda. Why did I say it was accidental you might ask? Well let's just say I never planned to be a guest there but a silly mistake kept me on the occasion.

On that very Saturday afternoon I was supposed to watch a live football match between two rival teams but got the venue wrong. It was a football field alright but when I got inside, I realized I was at the wrong place but seeing how exciting the ceremony looked I decided to stick around for a bit.

While I was being entertained by the dancers, I saw some familiar faces and decided to ask questions. Apparently the man was the oldest man in the entire village with over 6 wives, 39 children and numerous grandkids meaning he really lived a full life. Because of how large his family was, the party was arranged in sections meaning each child has their own party going on under different canopies with their own guests, refreshments and even entertainment. The entire place was filled with people dancing, singing, shouting and jubilating. In Nigeria nobody cries for the loss of an elderly, rather we celebrate the life lived and wish such a life span on anyone who wishes to claim such fortune.

Other than the excitement from the entire occasion, my greatest joy has to be the fact that there were different varieties of food and drinks and despite the large crowd, there was enough food for everyone. Like there were literally people employed to cook for the entire day to make sure the guests are properly fed. I had fun and went home filled and brimming with experience.
I do hope for such accidents to happen more often, I am always open to free food and this kind of entertainment 🤣.
