Religion is the way we worship God. It is everything that we do in service to God. It is our worship and obedience to God's commandments.
Religion can be true or false. There are several religious groups and sects in the world. There are different beliefs. That we have all these kinds of religions with different religious practices, it means there are false ones and there is the true one.
James 1:27 (KJV) Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.
The Bible tells us that the true religion is to visit those in need. It says we who practice religion should be concerned about the welfare of the fatherless and widows. That means we should cater for their needs. So, one of the characteristics of true religion is to attend to the needs of those who are in need.
James 1:26 (KJV) If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain.
Another thing that we learn about true religion is what Bro Eli reminded us of. He said that those who are religious should know how to control his or her tongues. That is, if you are religious, you should be able to bridle your tongue. You should know when to say what you want to say and when to keep quiet.
John 14:6 (KJV) Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
True religion is found in Jesus Christ. Anyone who wants to serve the true God must come through Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is the only way to the father.
